i picked one an old Waldon 5000 loader and have a few questions. what type of drive is used in it (to power the wheels)? i know it is some type of hydraulic drive, but i'm not familiar with anything like this, having owned vehicles with "normal" transmissions previously. also, if anyone is familiar with these, how are they when running up inclines? i'm talking maybe 10 or 15 grade, not 45 degrees. it seems to run great on the level, but especially in high range it isn't too happy going up a small hill behind my garage. also, anyone know of a source for an operator's manual?

thanks.

For info, try Mobile Products, Fairview, OK . Phone 405-227-3711 . I own a 5100 forklift unit, so if your 5000 is anything like the 5100 it will be a hydrostatic transmission. This is not like the automatic in your car. The engine powers a hydraulic pump at around 2000 psi. The pump powers the cylinders on the unit and the transmission. My unit is also poor vis vis hill climbing in 2nd gear and only fair in low. Mobile indicates it should climb around a 30 to 35 degree slope in low. Output from the transmission is mechanical driveshaft connection to front and rear Dana 60 full floater axles, not separate hydraulic motors on each axle. I believe you have to go to the 6100 series to get separate hydraulic motors. Transmission on the 5100 contains a single hydraulic motor to keep costs down. I am suspecting that my hydraulic motor needs repair based on the marginal hillclimbing but decent hydraulic system pressure under full stall. Other possible causes in your case might be dragging brakes. One caution with the hydrostats is that your brakes must, repeat must be in good working order with good safety handbrakes. Max wheel torque occurs with minimal pedal, so an attempt to stop a runaway will result in huge driveline stresses and may just simply snap a shaft or gear without stopping the unit. Hope this is helpful. Do you know a good source of used 15 inch wide tires and rim combinations for the unit? I have narrow semi-solid tires and the unit bogs down in soft stuff.

Did you have any luck w/ your waldon 5000 loader? I think the drive is like a hydrostat.I have an old waldon 5000 and I'm looking for an engine manual for it. i have the body manual that might have hydraulics info for you but i need help w/ engine trouble. when mine ran it did ok on hills but sometimes under loads had to be put in low.

I also own a 5000 loader. I am looking for manuals for the frame. Especially with the instrumentation. Mine has been gutted. Any help would be appreciated.
