I'm not very happy with the paint job that the traveling painter did yesterday...He drove in with a 2002 pick up truck on expired Ohio paper tag , gave my father the song and dance about doing a "good job" and it'll last 8 or 9 years,well Dear Ole Dad fell for it and threatened me with "either he'll do it or you'll do it " so the fast talker got the job, I had spent 4 days using phosphric acid and treating the trim on two buildings and giving it two coats of aluminum paint, well in 3 1/2 hours the 2 man crew had painted the 4 buildings roofs with aluminum /asphalt paint,he was aked before he left to touch up one obvious area and he did...but after climbing up and looking it's not what Dad would allow me to get off with if I did it, oh well...there went $ 700

We had a bunch of them here in South Eastern Michigan. Told the old man they'd paint all our barns for 1300. that was 2yrs ago, and they our barns look terrible. Now that I think of it, the boss was driving a new chevy truck and a two old colored boy's was doing the work.

SOME OF THEM ARE SOMETHING ELSE ONE STOP HERE ONE DAY AND TOLD HE WOULD PAINT SOME BARNS FOR 700 DOLLARS I SAID NO HE LEFT AND CAME BACK AND DONE THEM FOR 300 DOLLARS THAT HAS BEEN 10 YEARS AGO AND THEY NEED PAINTING AGAIN I WISH HE WOULD COME BACK BY PRETTY GOOD JOB

Sounds like the bunch that was in the Grand Rapids, Michigan area a few weeks back. Had made a contract with an old lady, and on the way to the bank to get the money, she had second thoughts, and turned them in to the cops. They found several outstanding warrants on them! Lady is lucky that she had second thoughts. NEVER EVER use anyone but local contractors you know!

i was thinking of telling the local sheriff about the expired paper tag for the new pick up truck, but dad don't seem like it's a big deal as he is doing business with him again , they are painting another roof today , i was able to talk to one of his helpers , a black guy , (a few years back, the helpers said they were discouraged from talking with the farmers) just seems like slavery all over again , and i don't like this type of way of doing business,thanks for your input

There's a few of them been around here.The truck they use has a 75 gallon paint tank,a friend of
mine who works at a gas station said they put 30
gallons of gas in the paint tank.The black guy
who did the painting was painted aluminum,hair
and all.

The farmer next door has been using the traveling painters from S.C. for a long time, and he was pleased with the results, so we tried them. The price does indeed go down with dickering though.

This spring they did both my barns and the tin roofs, plus the tin roof on the house, in one long day. Several (black) guys were doing the painting. The white guys just put paint in the tank. They may or may not have diluted the paint but I watched them unseal and put in the tank twenty-three apparently unopened 5 gallon buckets of Barn Red and a few more of aluminum paint.

Everything within spraying distance had little red or silver dots on it, including anything inside the barn near the sides, also one dog (red paws) and the other dog (silver ears).

Other than the overspray, they did a decent job. No prep at all though, just point and shoot. The paint is on plenty thick and when my wife pointed out areas that were not done correctly, they promptly resprayed them. I'd use them again, just cover everything with plastic first!

the boss said he mixes his own paint, asphalt, and aluminum powder , as he was having problems with a local paint company, yeah he was all full of talk, anything to get the job, boy it makes me boil....

I live apprx. 15 miles from their village. They live in mansions and drive Lexus, Cadillacs, and
other expensive cars. All the men and boys have
new trucks. They not only paint roofs; they also
sell hydraulic jacks, presses; some even sell carpets. They pay no property taxes and most have
one of two last names. They are very slick, crude,
and damn right rude!!!!

Yes , saw 60 Minutes awhile back with a segment just like this, he talks up his sales pitch and will haggle some in the price and Dad bites like a fish on the bait,he really treats the men poorly , expects too much out of them, one time , we had them checked out by our local sheriff , and felt silly after ,as all was well, but they will be here soon again as Dad has them doing more work...

I saw on the local news last week (northern Maine ) that a two pick up crew from So. Carolina aproched an elderly couple about painting thier barn. Deal was made and some kind of contract was signed for $350.00 and the barn was spray painted in about 2 1/2 hours. Bill was then given to the old folks for over $8,000 !! They must have charged so much because they took the extra time to paint the bushes and windows on the back side of the barn.

60 minutes did an article on these "painters" a few years ago. Seems they all live in a large subdivision and all have the same first and last name. Makes finding the "crook" much harder.

I would tend to think that would make finding the crook a lot easier. If he has the same name as all his neighbors/realtives his guilty of something and his trying to hide.
