Hello! I m in the process of helping my father clean out an old garage. We were offered $200 for this old Minneapolis-Moline. Is this a decent price? It turns over but won t start. There s no spark, I m not a professional mechanic but from what we ve read and played around with we believe the magneto is shot. Thanks in advance for any help. [/img]

That is likely 1/2 the scrap price. If it turns over, it is sure worth more than 200. If you have time, put it on this site's auction, or classified ads. Craig's list is another. Jim

Hello RM welcome to YT! Here is a rundown on posting
your picture. Pictures post through the ..Browse or
Choose files.. button just below where it says ..Upload
Photos/Videos.. down lower in the ..New post and reply
windows. Clicking that will give you a choice to select
the file or folder the pictures are stored in on your PC
or phone. Then select the photo from the file and
..Add.. it. They cannot be pasted into the text area as a
file.
I have also linked a site that will give you photos of
many of the models. My guess is you have one of the
older models with letter designations for the models.
Very common design to have the Minneapolis Moline
decal across the side opening over the motor. Then in
front of it about where the fan is the model letters are
placed there in gold and red around them.

Dont know what you have, but a normal size farm tractor from the early to mid 1900s always seems to bring $400 in
scrap price, even with a few parts missing.. Might expect a little more if everything is there and the tin is in good
shape, or if it turns over.

Sorry, I m on my phone and couldn t get the photos to upload. It says on the repair and instruction books Universal RT. He said it s a 52

Mixed iron is only $140 a ton in my location,
so $200 is a decent offer for a non-runner
with tires on it around here.

I agree. The guy is trying to make a buck and you can't fault him for that. Anything more than that is "emotional" or "sentimental" value.

Sure it's worth more in parts but you usually end up with your money tied up in the tractor for years before you see your initial investment back, let alone any profit. It's not like Farmall H's and M's, where there are a dozen within a 10 mile radius and you can sell off enough parts to get your money back in a week.

What was done to determine that "the magneto is shot?" What troubleshooting was done? Did you file the breaker points? Usually that's all they need to start working again. If you could make it run it would be worth 5 times that or more.

It would be worth 50.00 in parts and some time to see if it would run. Would bring much more than the money spent on it that way. Probably closer to the 1000-1500 range give or take on it. If it happened to be one of the lucky one and it was a UDLX would be much more. I know you said it is an R though it sounded a bit dubious.

$200 is low but they are not worth much more than $500-700 non running. The MM's don't have a huge following like the IH or
Deere stuff and parts are hard to find...but they are a neat machine. Where are you located?

I believe who ever offered you that would take it direct to scrap yard and not a used tractor parts yard.
