Speaking of fixing things

I'd rather post this on tool talk but the topic is here. I have a Turco Estate kerosene heater I got at an auction years ago and it's worked well. However it needs a new wick. I've looked on google but can't find a unit like this showing how to change the wick and I sure can't figure out how to remove it on this one. A l-o-n-g shot but anyone know about these?

If I recall, I gave you this page a couple years back on Turco wicks, and it includes a bunch of info on changing wicks also. Most of these are quite similar--often rebranded from another maker--and it should be fairly simple to cross-reference a model that you can find detailed instructions on.

I think all kerosene heaters are similar. You'll need to remove the thumbscrews that hold the wick assembly to the tank, then you can lift the whole works off the tank and the metal cylinder inside the wick. The wick is removed from the inside by pulling it away from the points that hold it in place. The replacement goes back in from the inside as well. There will be a line on the wick that shows where it's supposed to line up with the outer cylinder.

Not all wicks are the same. If possible, buy a wick made in the UK. I bought a Chinese wick and it was so ill-fitting the safety shutoff wouldn't work. The Brit wick I bought at Ace worked perfectly. I believe it was the American Wick brand. Aladdin wicks also come from the UK.
