Ferguson axle removal and seal repl

I have a TO-30 with an axle that is leaking fluid. It's been leaking for a while. I have the repair manual and it tells me how to get the axle off. What it does not say, is if I can replace the seal without removing the bearing race.

Removal of the bearing and race is a major job requiring a press tool that I don't have. I would like to repl the inner seal if that is the one that's leaking fluid out to the backing plate.

If anyone has taken one apart, and replaced the seal, let me know if I have to pull the bearing first. I will need to send the axle out to a shop for bearing removal if required.

Inner seal is replaceable without bearing or shrink collar removal. Outer seal requires removal of
the shrink collar and both outer and inner tapered bearing components. A big job. Im halfway
through the process at the moment. Youll need a 20 or 30 ton press and press plates to
replace the outer seal.

Thanks, that's what I was expecting. I found a video of the axle housing apart and the new seal. I'll pull it apart, but hoping I can keep the bearing and outer seal and just do the inner seal. It must be the inner seal leaking because I have trans fluid getting out to the brake backing plate and on the shoes.

If I have to go further, I'll send it to a shop with a press.

I m thinking there s a deal called "shur seal" that can be installed and will stop the leak and you don t have to take the bearing apart. I may be wrong, that happens a lot.

Yes there is but its a patch/hack job it does not fix the original issue of the outer seal leaking. One drop of oil/grease on the brakes and they are shot so go get that outer seal and be done with it. Life will be good.
