M&M Jetstar 3 Super

New to the forum, hope to have some great conversations.

I'm in my mid 60' and am working on a 1968 M&M Jetstar 3 Super SN 28303693 for a very special friend. It has been setting for 7-8 years, ran when she parked it.

#1- The oil filter center bolt is broken off at the threads, so I'd like to adapt to a spin-on oil filter. Engine is not frozen up. Really do not want to use the original canister set-up, when I was a kid, I vividly remember my uncle trying to keep the thing from leaking. words a kid should not hear!

#2- The steering wheel is free motion, no steering. Should there be some resistance with the hydrostatic steering and the front should steer under power or not under power.

Literally surfed the web for the past week and can find Zilch for the adapter. I was able to locate an owner's manual and service manual with parts list, should be here soon, I hope.

Any direction will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Welcome to the forum!

Not sure if they make a spin-on oil filter adapter for that tractor or not. A few years ago I was unable to find one for a 445. I know they make them for the older tractors, but not sure about this one. Usually you can get the canisters to seal if the surface is real clean and also make sure all of the old gasket is removed before putting in the new one.

Can't help with your other question, but if you scroll down the page here, you will find a specific forum just for MM tractors. Ask your questions down there, as not all the MM gurus visit this forum.

Are you sure you've got a Jet Star 3 Super? Should be a spin-on oil filter from the factory. In fact, I think all the older Jet Stars did, too. Might want to post a pic here to verify.

I had a Jetstar 3 regular and a Super. The power steering does not work unless the engine is running. There is
no mechanical connection. It can put you in a panic situation sometimes. I needed new thrust bearings under the
front spindles. The oil filter on my regular was a spin-on laying fore-and-aft under the engine. Be sure to check
for water leakage between the two blocks and two heads. I had to replace my rusted shunts with stainless steel
ones. Cheap, but a pretty big job to do.

I Have a jetstar, jetstar2 and jetstar3. All three use an automotive spin-on filter. I am wondering if your engine or oil pump was
exchanged for one from a 445 or 335. Its also very likely that a pump from a Z, ZA, or ZB would fit too.

Anyhow, I know on Ebay they offer oil filter adapters from the Z, ZA, ZB tractors. If your oil pump is from a 445, I don't know if these
would work.

Another alternative would be to find a good used oil pump from a Jetstar, 4star, Jetstar2 or Jetstar3.

My Jetstar3 will steer with the engine off, but if it sits long enough all the oil eventually leaks from the steering gear back to the
reservoir and then you loose the steering with the engine not running.

Thanks for the info. The oil canister does run fwd/aft. The center bolt is 9/16-12 x 6-1/2". I tried an adapter off ebay, however the engine side had a fine thread.

The starter is held in with one bolt and jam nut that would go into the back of the nose cone, no mounting flange. Tried to have it rebuilt by a local starter / generator repair shop that's been doing it since Moby Dick was a minnow. Says it's a conglomeration of other parts someone tried to hodgepodge together.

Confirming serial numbers. Tractor SN 28303693 Engine SN 10006391. The book shows starter number 10A22691 (Delco # 1103956)

Thanks, the engine is a 206H which was used in the Jetstars. The vintage of the engine is suspect. The book calls for a spin-on oil filter???? The center bolt receptacle (taped hole) for the oil filter canister is a 9/16-12 thread. Spin-on filters have a 3/4-16 or larger tapped hole.

Was hoping someone has the ability to determine if this engine belongs to this tractor?

Tractor- Jetstar 3 Super SN: 28303693
Engine- 206H-4 SN: 10006391

Any help is much appreciated.
