Snubber diode

Tractor connection - The unit I need this for is sitting next to one of my tractors.

I'm having great difficulty trying to locate what should be a very common item, a snubber diode molded into a 2 pin SAE style plug. I have one that was inadvertently fried I need to replace, and while I could just wire a loose diode in, I'd like to find a direct replacement since it should only be a buck or two but my searches are coming up empty.

Thanks,

Pete

In my opinion if it has something to do with some type
of repair that you use tools etc. even if it is household
appliances or other home or property maintenance
post away give us all the information you can on what
you are trying to repair. If you are telling us what you
had for dinner or what your cat was playing with I will
suggest you post that in Tractor Tales. Go ahead reveal
all secrets about the item so the brain trust can help
you out.

It's just a snubber diode on a contactor on a ~2006 vintage genset with a Deere engine. There are two contactors, one for start and one for glow plugs.

I put a new genset controller on and while the previous one provided ground to the glow plug contactor the new one provides +12 so I had to reverse the wiring. Rushing trying to do the work outside with a severe thunderstorm approaching I missed reversing the snubber and fried it.

Certainly I could just replace with a diode on a couple ring terminals but these ones should be readily available somewhere and cheap.

Just the crispy remains of an ordinay diode inside:

(quoted from post at 16:13:29 04/29/23) Have you tried Onan or whoever? made the gen set?

*hysterical laughter*

It was made by Magnum, now part of the beloved (not) Generac. No support to be found from them...

On the support front, Marathon Electric who makes the MagnaPlus generator head has great support. I emailed them about the missing data plate, providing the stamped SN and I got an email back with the full data in literally 15 minutes.

You could use any regular diode. Connect the cathode to the
positive wire going to the coil and the anode to the negative
wire.
No current will flow through the diode until you remove the DC
power. Then the reverse EMF generated by the coil will conduct
through the diode.

Yes I know what the do and have plenty on hand. What I'm trying to find is that style molded plug diode which ought to be a couple bucks.

My LT 155 John Deere lawn mower uses a diode setup like that in their electrics. I don't know the capacity or the polarity but it is in a rubber or plastic 2 prong plug hookup like yours. It might be worth looking into.

Not wrong century, just wrong manufacturer. Most everything Deere is a wee bit overpriced.

I guess a regular diode and a couple ring terminals will have to do...
