Bull and winter hay usage

How many typical hardcore 4x5 bales you figure a 2000 lb angus bull would eat per month in a northern Wisconsin winter. I just need a ballpark figure... nothing scientific. Again, I'd like to know per month.

About 2 per month in the milder temps. 3 per month when really cold out. 12 bales should be plenty for a complete winter eating hay.

So the bull weighs around 2000 pounds. Is the baled hay his whole diet or is he grazing as well? Either way he should eat 2-2.5% of his body weight per day. That would be 40-50 pounds. If he is fed in a bunk every day he would probably use about 11/3-11/2 bales per month at 1100ish pounds per bale. If you dump a bale in the lot with no feeder he may use and waste two bales per month. The actual amount required would also depend on the quality of hay. Whether quality alfalfa or late harvested CRP type hay.
