Found this in a creek bank
Any ideas what it is?

What is under your hand? Just a solid round bar or
shaft? Another picture of the end with the bell shaped
deal may help. To much leverage and not enough
anchor point for a buggy axle in my estimation.

The end I'm holding appears to have fit in a stake hole of sorts. Just a round shaft with a cotter pin hole in the end.
There's no gears in the end just the valve looking thing that flops lose in the housing.
That end has a couple bolts you could take out to separate the housing to remove the valve looking thing
