I want to make a Garden Tractor tank usable again. The tractor was in a barn fire. The tank inlet must have 'unsolderd' itself and blew off !! I think I can find a tin replacement and solder it on... advice ??
pic with cap is a good working tank.

Do you have an old metal gallon oil can or gas can? Heat it up and pull it off. Solder or braze it to the tank.

Personally, I would not try to fix it. As hot as it has been, the metal looks to be damaged and likely ne scaling rust inside. There may be other soldered seams that have melted out.

Have you looked for another tank? Maybe a small engine shop would have a salvage pile to go through, or Ebay.

How old is the tractor? Maybe Ereplacment Parts or Jacks Small Engine Parts.

That looks like a tank for a Kohler K-series, about 7 or 8 hp, I think. If so, there are much better tanks on Ebay than that one.

You can buy weld in gas fillers for tanks from various suppliers. I think Summit or Speedway sells them. We have made gas tanks for model A's and welded fillers in over the years.
