Grease suggestions

For greasing PTO shafts, kingpins, tie rod ends, u joints, and such. Lithium grease for that stuff or what do you use ? I usually just use wheel bearing grease but I think there could be something cheeper for other stuff then wheel bearings.

Good question ,I usally go to Family Farm and Fleet and get a brand name Mystic ot at tractor supply their Traveller was ten tubes for 20
Use it on all the equipment ,mowers ,disc , baler, pto tiller , , I get better stuff on sale also , but if goes on the roadway I put better grease in those fittings .

I have always thought the Mystic red was a decent grease for the price and use it a lot on older stuff that requires frequent greasing, like ever thing else it has gone up in price.

I use the traveler red, which is better and tacky. When a bearing burns up because it got no grease or was the cheap stuff, saving 25 cents gets very expensive.

The company I work for just started using shaeffer grease and motor oil.supposed to be much better than anything else they say.every 300 hrs for oil change instead of 150

its like this... any grease is better than no grease. how many people do an actual grease job when they change oil. myself, its mystic grease as the top end stuff.

that is the way mystic grease is when hot it will not run and when it cools it goes back to its state.

Have used a moly based grease with good bearing performance. It is compatible with lithium. Do not mix synthetic with lithium. Not Compatible.

I like the red Mystik TJ-6.

But whatever you choose to use, stick with that brand and type. All grease is basically oil with a solidifier added. There are several different types of solidifiers, and you really don't want to mix them.

Lucas Red "N" Tacky #2 life will be good...

Cheap chit will leak out of the tube at normal temps so don't tell me any grease is better than no grease... If it had a prefect seal once filled you would never need to add to it tell me what has a prefect seal... I am not gonna put grease in it that will leak out of the tube I don't care how cheap it is...

use the best grease you can. saves money in the long run even at cold temps. I watched a video on different greases at different temps and after seeing how much better a good thick grease was than the stuff I was using, all I buy now is the red tec thick heavy high heat and man does that work on loader pins nice compared to that cheap crap.

Any grease is better than no grease. To some extent that is true if it never gets greased after it is delivered to the farm then yes. If it gets regular greasing then probably the better grease is a better plan. I've used all kinds of greases from Mixed transmission oil into grease for the rollers on the Cat tracks. To heavy grease in guns on fittings. Dad always said if it doesn't get in the bearing it can't do much good. I used the red tack from the local fuel supplier and have used a Unoba moly grease for things. I liked the Unoba grease on the corn dryer even in the winter. Would either keep the gun in the cellar for the heat or grease it when it warmed up some. That moly grease you could not wipe off. The Red Tack I've used on the semi's since I started with them with no problems and some of the drive line has not been changed since it was new with over a million mile on it. Greased ever weekend or about 3,000 miles. Reason for changing was they changed the moly grease and I didn't like it after the change. We oil roller chains with used engine oil too.

I use Primrose also. Found it to be far better than other so called top quality grease brands especially on bushings. Where a bushing would wear out in one to two years, I have not changed a bushing in over 5 years and they still show little wear. This grease doesn't run out like the others did.

Due to closeness I usually use either JD or NH general purpose grease. If buying at a store such as TSC don't buy the cheapest grease as I have seen it does not wear as well and one product got hard in sleeves and bushings. It took disassembling and cleaning to get those to take grease well again. I guess if I were servicing a much larger fleet then I would be more keen as to other products at a lesser price but typically 10 cartridges lasts for one year.

I don't always use it but I do think schaeffer moly is the best grease you can buy. Lasts much longer on the loader bucket pins then anything else I have tried.

Be CAREFUL. Dad used Mystik JT-6 on his IH 2ME mounted corn picker for a couple years, worked good in fact, he could pick all morning before the worn plain bushing bearings would start making noises. I started using it in my Cub Cadet mower deck tapered roller spindle bearings. Took about 2 summers of mowing for the roller bearings to turn blue. Same thing on the frt spindle bearings of my '78 F-150 fwd pickup, Dana 44 frt axle.
The guy that rebuilt the Dana 44 axle recommended I switch to Lubriplate 1200-2 grease. I haven't had a bearing go bad since.
