Whats your style?

Kind of hard to type this post,,it would be easier to discuss

But,,gonna give it a try anyway

Over the years here on the site,,I Notice different styles

For example,,Grandpa Love might buy something,,,and works at it,,gets it done,,,before he buys
more

Hes what I Call ,,the now style? Kinda makes sense,,if you dont have time now to fix it,,why get
more for someday? Someday is now for Grandpa Love style

That doesnt mean anyone doesnt have the right to choose their style,,and,,to each their own

Its just that when I Was younger,,I Had a Someday style,,then,,a big pile of ..stuff,,,and no way
enough somedays would ever clear up the pile

Many ,many of my friends have had the someday style,,,and lots and lots of piles got covered with
stickerbushes and sank into the ground denigrating.

Now that Im older,,,I Like grandpa Loves style

Dont bring it home and let it sit,,if you already have something sitting at home for ,,,someday

I use to have way too many projects.
Now I an getting more like Grandpa but with much less projects.
I tend to not rush at things like I use to.
It takes the fun out of it.
Of course I am pushing 70 now.
I am finishing a big project I have been working on since Christmas.
Will post photos in the next couple of days.
Richard in NW SC where we have had a cold wet winter and spring.

Ill admit. I definitely have the SOMEDAY STYLE. Too many irons in the fire and have trouble organizing and staying on track. Must be a medical term for that Im thinking. Wingnut

My style is to start a project and then slow to a stop before it is completed. The F 20 has an alternator on it that isn't wired correctly and a starter that doesn't want to spin, but it looks good. I put an alternator on the 9n and bought a resistor and it is still not installed. I painted the C and found out that the replacement grill doesn't fit. So the hood and decals have not been installed yet. I'm a 80% kind of guy.

ON top of that I am slow to figure things out. I start a project and then later it occurs to me what I should have done or how to proceed.

As I get older I have been working at getting a current project finished to my satisfaction before bringing home another. But I have 2 or 3 I seriously want some day so if I find one on that list at the right price, at the right distance, I will jump on it before it is gone. I have missed a few also. But one project I am working on now is one of that kind. It sat in the back of the shop for a few years before I got started on it. With it inside, it is not deteriorating as much and it is always on my mind if parts pop up while wandering around a swap meet or something.

I wont like to buy tractors that are recently painted. Hiding something ,I dont even look at tractors with overspray on tires
I prefer the original even with dents
Also switched to original implements , if offered is a big plus , bigger challenge finding implements for Farmall C ,corn planter ,side dressers cultivators ,mowers viz.

I started to paint a SC case back in 73. Twice I've bought paint for it only to have it dry up in the can, decal set crumbled into dust.
Tractor still not painted!

Beagle

We try to keep 5-6 tractors in the ' hospital' side of the barn.... When one moves out, running, another will be bought. We only paint tractors we are going to keep. Too many critical folks over paint! Now, if, someone comes to buy another tractor and makes an offer on a painted one, we usually will sell it. If we take too long to put one together, we forget how it came apart!! Lol

I often let some tasks or projects stew in my poor head for years before I come up with a plan of attack. Eventually I'll figure it out.

Like gl, when some repairs have to be redone after a number of years, it can be a RE-learning experience!

" I've forgotten more than I'll ever know..."

I prefer to have only one major project at a time, whether it be a tractor or a house project. That isn't always possible as things break unexpectedly. At this time I have an Oliver 550 that needs split to fix the PTO, but I will not start it until I have the pulling tractor back together. I bought the 550 a few months ago because I thought it was an easy fix and I did not want to miss it. In the meantime, I have passed on some other projects because they would have to sit outside.

Ive got a family style. Ive got stuff from Grandpa, stuff from Pa, and some day it will all be Jrs. Mind you it all is in various stages of repair.

I suffer from that too. My main retirement project is my 1970 Mustang Fastback. Im mostly putting things back together now and at 72 find I forget how something went together. I just put the timing chain cover and water pump back on. They use multiple different size bolts from 1 to 5 long. Its a good thing they make workshop and assembly manuals. And the internet too.

Larry my style is if something is broken I will fix it or I'll sent it to the recyclers. I like to mow around broken yard ornaments.
I only need two tools to fix things. A hammer and a screwdriver.
If I can't beat something up, I can screw it up.. The sad thing is, I know how to fix many things, I just don't have the strength or the stamina anymore. Today I ran out of gas at 1:30. I work bankers hours too. I started working at 10 am and clocked out at 1:30 pm today.
Working at this pace, I won't run out of things to do...

I wish I could keep up with you..

I have some someday projects. I guess I didn't realize how slow I was going to get in my old age!
He who builds no castles in the air,
builds no castles anywhere!

build some castles in the air is ok,,,but some people have so many someday stuff piled up it becomes an impossible dreamworld,,and someday someone has to deal with a pile ,it may be a loved one who really cant handle it,it could end up being a mess,I have seen it many, many times

I guess I've known it for a long time, but sharing your joys with others makes for a pretty rich life. Make friends while you can still get around.

Let's see....I've got two garden tractors that are my retirement projects, couldn't keep my hands off them so now they are in pieces UNTIL I retire...someday

I think I am on same style of family.
I am lucky to farm with trucks and tractors of my grandpa and dad, and working some of the same fields of 50 or 80 or 100 years ago.

Nothing to do with collecting, just keep running them and repair as needed

Pretty much the way I'm doing it too. And definitely a "someday" person. I hardly ever throw away or recycle anything. I'm not actually collecting anything and not likely to buy any more tractors. I'd still make room in the shed for another nice 52-53 Mercury though.
