I called Nuehaus lumber asking if

They sell CCA treated lumber? Took them a while, No.
They outlawed CCA treated in 2003.
I told him I just bought CCA lumber at the box store , Menards.

I
Stopped at Menards and special ordered 2x6x8 and 2x6x12 CCA lumber before calling Niehaus.
The 18 foot board was fitted in the slots at the front and back of deck. .

8 ft from the front of the trailer is a 3 inch angle iron. The butt ends of an 8 ft and 10 ft board will rest on the center of a 3 inch angle iron.
I plan to replace the deck the Johnny cash way. Replace one bad board at a time.

It will take about a week for special order to come in

Yes, One board at a time.
2022,2023,2024,25,26..
I can't see replacing boards that still are good.
Going to be easy putting them in 8 and 10 ft at a time.
Can't buy a 10 ft CCA. Have to buy a 12 ft.
So I'll keep the 2 ft cut offs for the dovetail...
I built a deck out of 5/4 CCA boards that are 30 years old,
Still good.
Last deck I built with AC2 lasted about 12 years, Like my trailer deck...

Hopefully this will be a lifetime repair..one board at a time..

Be aware that the new lumber will shrink, width and thickness, as it dries. I replaced the entire deck on my 16' trailer. Tight fit. 3 months later, gaps. Install new boards next to the prior new board.

If you replace one 16 foot plank with two 8 foot planks, it will be weaker. How far apart are the supports for the deck boards?

18 ft plank. Good luck finding an 18 ft 2x6x18. CCA.
Tell me why I can't put the splice the boards on a 3 inch wide angle iron.. The boards will be bolted to the 3 inch angle. The front end of trailer, the boards are resting on 1.5 inches of channel iron.. I see no problem with a butt joint.
Many times 4x8 plywood is resting on half of a 1.5 inch wide rafter..3/4 of an inch.
The board can't move..

Where am I going to find 2x6x18 oak??? Or 2x6x8 and 2x6x10 oak?
OAK is about $5 a foot.. each board is 18 board feet. $90 a board...It might be cheaper to use metal.. I haven't counted how many boards I need to do the complete deck..
2 CCA boards 2x6x8 and 2x6x12 will cost a total of $30 tax included. I may not live long enough to replace them a second time..

You do not drive a tractor on your plywood roof.

But around here the local place that treats with CCA will not do small lumber.
They have 2x6 but it is 16 and 20 feet long. No 8 and 10 feet stuff.
No 2x4 or 2x8. They only sell what you would use to make a retaining wall or boat dock.
And all of it is number 1 wood.

Big box stores were complaining small sizes competes with them unfairly and entices residential sales.
And that is against the law.
So they only sell big or odd stuff like 6x6 and fence post.
They sell 2x6 because that is used as the walking platform of a boat dock.

Are you going to splice all of them on the same crossmember? That's going to look kind of cheesy! I would break them up and put some of the splices between the crossmembers, put the 2 foot scrap underneath with about 8 carriage bolts securing it. I need to repair the deck on a trailer too, I built it 25 years ago and put oak on it, some of them are bad now. I might cut some tamarack and take it to a sawmill.

What I do is just buy good yellow pine boards. Then treat all sides liberally with Flood CWF, twice or until it no longer soaks in. Install and repeat the treatment couple of years. Any oil change drain oil is applied when available.

I also have a trailer with the boards installed under a welded flange. If changing the one, I just remove the metal piece as it is only tacked every few inches and a cutoff wheel a die grinder or 45 electric grinder makes short work of it. On one board I've been able to tuck one end under, block the board up at a crossmember and push it down on the end with the loader. You can calculate the height of the blocking using your math skills or just trial and error, like me. Once down low enough to go in place, knock the block off the crossmember with a long heavy bar.

Adding this for a board source. The better the board the less rot. Dense lumber, like SYP absorbs less water than the white stuff. Knots, cracks, etc are water entryways. Also a future failure, or maybe a crack when bending it into place. contact a local truss maker as they almost always us yellow pine and #1 grade.

I've not have a #2 or better SYP deck board treated with CWF rot when applied on all sides and top coated every couple of years.

I posted on the other thread easy way to replace board full length but didn't know you already ordered a 10 and an 8 ft.
