Canon G 5020 Printers

Hello. Maybe some of you will remember that last month I posted about the battle I was having trying to get my HP 8150 printer to work after the win-10 upgrade install. Well that never happened and to make the long story short even the HP tech support could offer no help except to tell me I needed a new USB cable. I tried to explain them I had tried 3 different cables but no luck. I gave up after most of a week lookin for a driver/install for the HP printer. Win 10 effectively just killed off a very good printer. So I moved that printer to the shop office where I have a non internet connected computer I use for reading service manuals and such on CD's and it is back working fine on the XP program. I will just bite the bullet and buy a Win-10 compatible printer.

So now on to the real question of this post, any one have or have used a Canon Pixma G-5020 printer? I don't need the all in one unit because I have a very good Epson flat bed scanner already and I don't need a fax machine. There is one already here but it hasn't been used to send or recieve a fax in ~ 5 years. E-mails do a much faster and easier job of sending information now.

Single function printers are very hard to find and cost more than many of the all in one units. The relation ship of this to tractors is that I print out much of the down loaded info so I can have the hard copy to read as I work. I like the fact that it has an ink tank and no expensive cartridges to give out in the middle of a print job and also I need a low profile unit like this one to fit in the space that is alloted for the printer in the cabinet so that I will not have to tear out and remodel the cabinet and desk unit here. Thanks for taking time to read this and give your opinion.

Not familiar with that unit, but in a previous life I sold Canon units. To this day, I only run Canon. Now if I didn't need color, I would stick with a laser, either HP or Canon.

We just bought this printer from Walmart for $44, less than the price of new cartridges for our HP printer.

Setup was simple, downloading the drivers took about 10 minutes, I have printed a few pages in black and white, it seems to do that just fine. I bought 3 replacement cartridges from Sam's club for $65 for spares.

So far so good.

if you don't need color I would recommend this
HP laser printer. I have an older model and my
last toner cartridge lasted a little over a year.
Toner cartridges are about $85.00.

As you know, the cost of a printer is the cost of the cartridges or ink. The last several years we had a Canon laser that was very expensive to maintain. The 4 cartridges cost about $300 and maybe you got 1500 pages.
Our tech suggested we get an Epson 2850 EcoTank. Cost $300, but refilling the ink costs about $20 and will produce 1500 or more copies. It is faster and makes beautiful copies. Easy to install. Would highly recommend it. Does color and BW.

We have been very happy with our Canon Pixma inkjets. They use individual color cartridges, so you replace individually, and the Kings Way knockoff cartridges on Amazon work just fine. We now have a Canon that has ink tanks, have had it 2 years and haven't refilled the tanks yet.

Hello folks, the saga of the printer(s) has ended well as of today. I got the new Canon G-5020 unit and it is installed and doing a wonderful job of printing. It is an ink tank printer and it comes with enough ink to do ~6,000 black and white pages and ~ 3,000 color ones. so that ends the aggravting messtrying to get a printer going. I still am not too impressed with Win-10 yet. Thanks for all the helpful ideas. Gene Davis Tennille, Ga.
