Rare Cessna Gear Pump shaft seal needed

I have a Cessna hydraulic gear pump, model number B15514 OCAA. I'm having a devil of a time finding the shaft seal for this pump. It's an 11/16 shaft, seal bore is about 1.115 inches and the seal is about 3/16 tall. Any ideas who to talk to to find this seal? steve

Check with Motion Industries, if you have the shaft dia and the seal outside dia. and the thickness they can get you a seal.

There are several seal supply companies listed online.

If one is near you, take the old seal, the disassembled and CLEAN pump, and they can probably match it up.

If none close by, get some really accurate measurements, a description of the application, call and make arrangements, and mail them the old seal(s). They can match them up, bill your cc, mail them back.

You can also try looking through their online catalog, but it can be a daunting task, so many to look through and descriptions are not always accurate. High risk of ordering the wrong seal or it being put on eternal backorder.

This is who I use, very knowledgeable and don't mind small orders.

Fritz, I tried the local Parker Hydraulics store today. They deal Eaton, who bought out Cessna. They were no help, except to send me elsewhere. I'm going to try a few of the suggestions here, and follow a couple more leads. Thanks, Steve

Here are a couple pictures of the national seal book for 11/16 shaft. Hope this helps and you can find what you need

SKF does not list one through that link that matches my bore size @ 1.115 Their smallest OD in my shaft size is 1.124. A little TOO much press fit. But thanks for trying. I'm
still working a couple more avenues.

Double, I'm sorry for the nomenclature. Although its not a new high tech digital calipers, those numbers are within .001 of accurate. Growing up in a machine shop, its hard for me to say they are precisely anything.

Thanks, FJ. It looks like National can't get to the 1.115 bore size I need. Neither could SKF. I'm thinking .005 press fit is too tight, especially that small of a diameter. Still trying though.

It seems the 1.115 bore size is the problem. H&D, National, and SKF can't get down below 1.120/1.124. Do you think .005 is too much press fit for this small of a diameter? IMHO it should be 2-3 thou at the most, especially steel seal to aluminum housing. steve

is this pump off a Farmall ? if so they have that seal i had to replace one years ago and the were the only ones that had it

A John Deere 4420 combine has two Cessna hydraulic pumps. Maybe they have similar seals to what you need. Those pumps are model numbers 24382-RAB and 24306-RAC. Both use JD part number AH15442 seal.

Good luck!

Cessna Fluid Power division was in Hutchinson KS and for a time in prehistoric days shared factory space with a glider factory. Many years later Cessna Fluid Power sold to Eaton Industries and the workforce did a terrific job of convincing Eaton to leave them in place and let them prove their productivity. That argument actually worked at the time. I do not know if Eaton is still viable or if they support the antique stuff, but you can find them on the net.

Yeh, if I don't find anything in the next week or two, I'm going to machine the bore to fit an available seal. There's lots of them at a larger bore diameter. But it will take some fancy centering on a big 4-jaw chuck to get it right. I'm taking Jim's advice next and see if Motion Industries can do me good. Spencer Hyd. is also working on it for me. steve

My 1958 Massey Ferguson 202 Work Bull has a Cessna pump mounted on the front and these pumps were original equipment on some machines. Have you tried looking at MF / MH parts books? You might find a number to cross reference.

Jim, I called Motion, in Spokane, and they said even IF I brought it in, they probably could not help me. I'm thinking it is not enough money for them to even try to help. steve

1948, I tried to navigate through Eaton's website, and they are so big and global, I sincerely doubt I can get through to someone who can work backwards into the Cessna archives. But, on a day with less frustration, I might try again to pry a door open. steve
