I want to put a 12 volt LED headlight on my 36 volt golf cart, can I , and how would I, it has 6-- 6 volt battery's thanks

Call a golf cart store. Probably not the first time this has been asked. Very few of us are wired for more than 0, 6 or 12 volt systems.

Pull the bulb it has and test the voltage going to it from the light switch. Match the bulb base and voltage (and polarity) from options on the internet. See the future as you drive. Jim

Do some digging/checking in the 'net, some KES work lights accept a wide range of voltages up to 36 Volts with no input/changes by the installer.

thanks I figured it out they make a step down voltage reulator from 36 volts dc to 12 volts dc for 20 bucks

As someone mentioned,leds often use more than a single voltage such as anything from 6 to 36 volts. If your light is maked that way I'm sure you know how to wire the light. If it say's 12 volt only,here's how to connect it.
Of the 6 batteries,only the last post at one end of string is connected to chassis of cart. Whether that post is marked with - or + we call that ground. Go to next battery and connect a wire to opposite polarity as one we called ground. Put an in-line fuse near battery with twice amp rating as light consume's. This wire lead's to switch that will control headlamp on and off. And of course another wire go's from switch to one pole of light. A short wire from other pole on light run's to chassis (ground).

Drawing from only (2) batteries as shown in the diagram can cause those batteries to fail. The charging levels will not be equal. You could wire (3) 12V lights in series instead.

Or use the 36V>12v converter S mentioned.

Easy.
Just use 12v, 2 6v batteries.
Golf cart are wired that way for factory.

Good chance your golf cart was wired that way if you have a horn.
