International Rake

Father in law has this International Model No. 15 rake. It's in really good shape from what I can tell, but I have never used one. Any experience with these older IH basket rakes? He said I could have it so I figured why not.

I'm usually a New Holland guy when it comes to making hay, but this unit seems well built. It would only need a few things to get it running again.

We had one of those. It was an excellent rake. The only problem we ever had was that the bearings went bad in the drive shaft and Pop was too cheap to buy the bearings. He drove a hard maple dowl in, bored it the right size, greased the daylights out of it, and it was still tight when we sold the rake. You could rake 7-8 mph and it still made a nice windrow.

Darn good rakes.I have a 35 and a
15.Would buy another in a heartbeat,just
to have a spare.Put it in the field, use
and enjoy

I have similar rake. Just a touch
older. I hate hooking and un-hooking
it with no jack or front wheels. Its
not a big deal. I simply just hook it
up to one tractor and leave it hooked
up all season. Might be a bigger pain
for someone who don't have an extra
tractor to just leave it on.

I had good luck with mine. Very sturdy and dependable. The only thing I suggest is not using rubber replacement tines from TSC or Farm Fleet. The rubber gets hard and they break. Use the spring steel type they will last. Grease it up and use it. I have a manual around here somewhere, if I can find it you can have it.

I spent last winter rebuilding portions of my NH 256 rake. One of the tine bar washers broke out and the
bearing shaft quickly burned thru the spider hole, wallowing it out. The gearbox bearings were shot and I
replaced a couple of tine bar bearings. Believe it or not the rake ran fine on the bad bearings but I just
decided to replace everything not in very good condition. Should go another 30 years now. No
exaggeration.

Had one just like it wouldnt comb your hair in heavy irrigated
hay . It Would be perfect for the prairie hay cut with my 7 foot
mower

I have a 15. I have a IH 4 bar attached to the back, thus giving a 12-13 foot width. It isn't the rake the 4 bar is, but it also is missing teeth.
