Allis B question

Going to look at an Allis B tomorrow. Seller says engine was built and re- sleeved a few years ago. But it felt too tight so he never tried to run it. Says he sealed it up and it's been sitting. What does feels too tight mean?? For the price I'm gonna get it. It's under scrap value...... I bet we make it run! Lol

To tight can mean a number of things or nothing. Many engines I have rebuilt where very tight and some so tight I could not turn them over by hand as in with a wrench but the start did so. Could also mean little or no pre-lube on the rod and main bearings and little to non on the ring areas. Or it could mean having the wrong size bearings as in if the crank shaft was turned to say 20 and they put in 10 bears it would be to tight.

Also if I remember right the rods in that engine if put in 180 out they will hit the cam or some other such thing and not let it turn the full 360. The A/C B was the very first tractor engine I ever rebuilt and when I was done with it I could not turn it over with the hand crank. It was one of those that was hand crank only. First tiem we started it we pull started it and it run jut fine till some one borrowed it with out permission and left it in the creek and it got flooded when the creek came up and it never run correctly again

If it has the old rope wick type rear main seal have had them lock up an engine or really make the crankshaft turn very hard when installed incorrectly!!!

I rebuilt my old MH 101SR back in 1978 and it would not turn over.
The bell housing bolts were different lengths for different holes.
I had put one in the wrong place and it was hitting the flywheel.
Another thing I did.
One of the rod journals on that old Continental crankshaft was worn more than the others.
I put a couple of layers of aluminum foil under the bearings and it ran fine for years pulling my sawmill.
