Old and Not so Old

A guy I went too high school with was working some ground next to us and had some hydraulic issues with his JD 8870 and parked it in our lot to work on it. He just happened to park it next to our old JD plow. He has a twin tractor to it, so he went and got that so he could keep moving

I wish I had a picture of the 1965 Oliver full line catalog cover. It was worth framing. It showed the back of an Oliver Plow Master two bottom plow in a fencerow behind a barn and a new Oliver 1850 tractor plowing with a 5 bottom plow.

You mean you don't? LOL

I've taken the loader off the 1600 and put it on and 1550 a couple of times when I was in a pinch. The 1850 and White 2-105 are pretty interchangeable. I've got an extra baler monitor and wiring in the 2-135 just incase I have to unhook the 2-105.

Ive got duplicates or at least another machine to take ones place if one breaks down . Even the new stuff breaks down so its nice to have a back up plan

You should sneak the plow over to the tractor and set it behind the tractor. Of course a plow that small could get backed over quite easily.

I was stopped waiting to make a left turn into Quik TRIP yesterday. When I looked in my rear view mirror I saw a lot of tires and green paint. With the size of what he was pulling, I would guess that he had to get tight to my bumper so that he wasn't blocking the intersection that he had just come thru.

Cool picture Randy. A guy I worked for as a kid had a 5 bottom case plow for his 1850 - it was a heck of a load in the soils we have around here
Great idea SDE - If it's still there on the weekend I'll do that

The plow looks like a 44H. I have one almost like that except mine has a rubber-tired rear wheel and a crank leveling adjuster instead of the lever.

Nice picture. Its always a good thing to have a backup plan in place just in case. Its even better yet to have a spare to the spare.

Ron - yes it is. It's got what I think they call slow speed bottoms. The points are cast and have a tendency to break in our bony soil, so we don't use it much. It does turn a nice furrow though - it would be good for bottom land

Neat picture that brought back memories of hours of plowing with a JD "jump-up" 2-16s. It bobbed along with the tail wheel in the air when it was out of the groung. I think a 1936 or 1937 model.

But what charmed me was that 8870. I was a part of the design team tasked with a new4W design to compete better with Versatile and others, moving away from the JD V-8, fewer parts, lower cost, repairable in the distant fields with major pieces removable in the field so that the whole tractor had to be transported back to the shop. First use of all glass cab door, automotive-type airconditioning. Our team reduced the number of parts by 40%. My part was cab frame, quite interesting to develope a partly crushable structure that protected the operator, many tests......Leo

Pete I bet the old timers wouldnt believe those big tractors would be working up in those hills. I saw the big Deere in the field as I was racing by on the roller heading for Hooker Mountain.
