American Landmaster thoughts?

Anyone have one? What do you like or dislike? I'm hoping to get a utv eventually. I would like one for work and play. Would like one that will do 40-45 for traveling down the road.

We bought one a few years ago from Tractor Supply. I havent seen any on their lot in the last couple of years, even before the scamdemic.

SWMBO loves it. I despise it. She putters around the
farmstead on it, tending her flower beds, fruit trees & such. Its ok for that.

I use it to run around the farms. It is not a comfortable ride.
The drive belt is centrifugally engaged as the throttle is
depressed. It jerks & jumps in forward or reverse. Forget
being able to ease up to a trailer tongue. Since what it can
pull is light, I generally just get close & then pull the trailer up to the hitch.

Oh, and the brakes. On any kind of incline I have to use both
feet on that little pedal & stand on it for any kind of control.

Speed. Ours might get 25 or so mph. No way will it do 40.

When we bought ours they were being built in Louisiana.
Theyve since moved away from there. I doubt that finding a
service center in our area is possible.

So far, the only problem weve had with it came when a weld
broke on the front of the bracket to which the engine is
mounted. Really lousy weld job. I swear it was done by a blind monkey. I took care of that & so far the rest has held together.

My opinion, if you havent figured it out already, is that you
should RUN, not walk, away. There is a reason it costs $$$$
less than the good ones.

John Deere Gator 825 nice ride and fast.

Local seed company has Kubotas and they beat them to death but they keep running and have very little repairs. Best buy if you work one really hard with hired help.

Have a Polaris Sportsman Big Boss 6x6. Has the box in the back and I know it will do 55mph and more. This one is an 80hp 2009 model machine. The newer models have even more HP that should let you pull almost anything you want. This is my second one. The independent suspension sure helps on hillsides. Another great feature is the engine braking. Sure helps on coming down hills. It has selective 2 or 6 wheel drive.

Landmasters are not heavy duty but can do lots of work and take abuse. I"ve worked on some freinds. The parts are available on line. Repairs are fairly simple. Basically a go cart drivetrain. As mentioned a centrifugal clutch system with a mower engine, honda or similar, for power.

Local tractor dealer has them is one reason I was wondering. Appears to be a few different engine options. They say made in usa buy probably just assembled here. I haven't looked at any utv yet. My friend has a kubota that is a great work horse but to slow to feel safe on the road and not really designed for off roading. I just keep running across their ad and thought I would get some first hand info. When ever I look up reviews on anything its usually from the mfg or dealer. Hard to believe what they have to say.

olliejunkie i just bought a American Landmaster. Got the L5W. Is has an hour and half on it now. Don't like the steering. Other
than that it's ok. Time will tell if it's no good. RB

I know nothing about that brand. I have a JD, base model. I couldn't get one that had the slow maximum speed I wanted, for the sake of crazy grandchildren running it! Built in Horicon, WI, which was a selling point for me. Briggs and Stratton engine was also a selling point. I've always had good luck with them.

They look fine for putting around the farm. Atleast their cheaper models. I dont know about the speedier ones. I do like the fact they're atleast partially made here.

The company I work for has bought over 25 of them the last couple of years. In an industrial setting they have not held up well. We've had so many problems with them that the company has used us as a basis to
make improvements. We pay around 7k for each unit and at that price I would look for a low hour used Polaris Ranger. They have made a lot of improvements to the running gear and body but they still have a
cheap 300 hour Kohler motor. If you are only going to put a few hours a year on one they might last awhile. They gave me one to use the first of this year and after 2 weeks I went back to the shop and got my
old Club Car golf cart back and told them to give that piece of junk to someone else. Just my opinion.

I've had two. First was bought used, a 2006??? model. Had a Honda engine. Still doing great. Brakes were manual and NOT strong.
Second one I bought new. Good Brakes (hydraulic), but with a Briggs & Stratton??? engine. As said above, machine jumps each time the accelerator is pressed, regardless of how gently one tries. Engine is shot. I'm looking to replace engine with a Honda or Kawasaki.
Third one is bottom of line Kawasaki Mule (sx). Super machine.
American Landmaster isn't bad but BE SURE TO GET HONDA OR KAWASAKI ENGINE!!!
