How not to make jean shorts?

Don't use a chainsaw while wearing your jeans.

Was a fairly calm day before the storm hits tonight. Started a wood pile on fire and then cut down some more trees around it. Started trimming branches off a trunk. Was hot, tired, and thirsty. A branch shifted while cutting it. Tore up my pants leg. Nicked my knee up a little. Cleaned it up, put on some triple antibiotic, and wrapped it up. Probably check it tomorrow to see if it needs a little super glue.

Suppose the YT chainsaw police are going to take my chainsaw away from me.

That reminds me of my uncle. He was 1618 years old and chopped his leg with a machete.
Didnt want his parents to know and they could not afford a doctor bill. He sewed it up with regular
thread. 2-3 weeks later he pulled them out and only then did his parents find out. Something like
10-12 stitches.

Im glad you didnt do a worse job on your knee.

Hot I can deal with, thirsty too. I always take a break every couple hours however, no matter how much spit & vinegar I have left in me.... or if I
get the bar stuck a few times in a row. That tells me I'm getting dumb & should quit before it turns to stupid.

That's just me though. I ain't here to police ya.

Boss did that at work 30 years ago. Town kid was helping him with small trees, and the kid wasn't getting the trees out of the way and the saw kicked back. Boss was an EMT, so found a stump to sit on, got out
his wallet that had needle and thread, sewed it up with a cigarette going and in 20 minutes we were back to cutting.

Been there, done that.

The last time I did it, our family doctor said that was the neatest job he ever saw someone do with a chainsaw. One chipper went under the skin, sliced neatly, and exited after a couple of inches.

I did better than the raccoon that came running out of the fire with all its hair singed off. Ran up the tree and licked its paws. I squirted it with the water hose for a while. Was up there for a few hours. I finally cut down the tree and he jumped off when it hit the ground and ran away.

Yeah, belgian. I had the garden hose out there spraying down the hydraulic hoses on the hoe every so often so they didn't melt. One of these days I'll get the 2606 running so I can put that hoe back on.

I did that once. Figured a pair of chainsaw chaps was cheap after that considering I ruined a good pair of pants and could've been much worse.

No policing from me. I was threatened
with chainsaw removal a few days ago.
Glad you didn't get hurt any worse.

Ive run a chain saw alot for my job. I know chaps have saved me. Also required to wear them.I have seen what the saw can do to other peoples chaps. If they hadnt of had them on they would have been going to the emergency room and fast.

Some folks are smarter than others.

Been there done that. I too was
exhausted and should have stopped
sooner.

Yeah Mike. I was trimming and usually cut away from me. This was a small branch on the other side of a tree limb about waist high. Hard to tell if I need to cut down or cut up depending upon where the weight distribution is. I cut down and the saw started to get snagged so I raised my knee under the limb to finish the cut. Think the unsnagging of the saw caused it to zig left a little after it cut through. It was an old pair of jeans with a patch on the knee and it made a good rip and pulled the pants leg. It didn't hurt at all.

Same here, I have a scar on my knee from a chainsaw from when I was a teenager. I had an old saw that wouldn't idle without dying out so I had to keep revving it up which of course kept the chain turning. I tripped stepping over a log and into my knee she went, not deep but sure hurt and bled. Ruined my jeans too. I never did tell my folks, just wrapped it up and continued on.

Scary stuff, glad it wasn't worse and it could have been VERY serious. Meanwhile, now that we are on medical stuff, I hope we don't have anyone with a camera having issues with their hemorrhoids, that would be more than scary.

(quoted from post at 11:21:00 04/16/21) Let me take a wild guess, your one of the smart ones.

Well, I'm smart enough to wear the proper protective equipment pertaining to the work I am doing. I think that makes me smart.

I know the difference between "your" and "you're" too.

My wife once asked how that straight row of 8 notches got cut in to the thigh part of my jeans....not sure I said.......they had stopped the chain.
I bought some kevlar chaps that week.

Ah, with a little more practice you could do it.

Lot closer call than I've ever done. I once let the end of the bar touch the top of my shoe while it was idling down. Leather shoe, it barely made a mark.

BTDT. I have hit my lower thigh a time or two, but fortunately whether right or wrong, I run my saws to beyond butter knife dull and the chain generally just snags the denim rather than cutting thru it.
