Unusual around here

This tractor looks like it's done a lot of work, yet doesn't seem to have been abused.
Design looks attractive.
Are there any comments? Is it worth $500.00

Had a 69 Ford 4000 when I was a kid we flipped the tires/rims around for the spacing so we could cultivate.

Probably not it, but that's why we did it.

And it was fun....calcium filled AND wheel weights.

Its a Universal tractor in Canada. Much like the Fiat built tractors that sold as Cockshutt, AC and other labels. Built in some east block country. Generally these kind of tractors were prom to some issues with poorer manufacturing techniques.

I think it is a rebadged Universal as Matt in Oz wrote. Long has unfortunately had a history of marketing/manufacturing problems so they imported tractors whereve they could get them. Originally Long built a few in North Carolina but imported tractors made by UBT/BMC ??, also from India, South Korea, Yugoslavia, etc. What was left of their inventory was purchased by Montana Tractors in 2008 when they went tango uniform.[/url]

Its a Romanian built Fiat what would be branded a Long 460(3cyl) or 560 (4cyl) here in the US,very tough tractors and contrary to what was posted about the easiest tractor to find parts for anywhere and parts are very reasonable.I have a 460 and a 560 I use on a regular basis as well as other Fiat built models.I'd pay
$500 for it in a heartbeat.

Traditional Farmer,

When I wrote about parts I was speaking in generalities. Perhaps more perception than reality but not specifically about UTB. You may also have better logistics and supply than we do. Even with the internet we have had problems locating parts for tractors that are not name brand or are older tractors than the more recently imported UTB.

With google and worldwide shipping, parts are not nearly as much of a problem as they once were. You can usually find what you need. Bearings and seals can almost always be crossed. Gaskets can be cut from old cereal boxes even. Orings can be measured. Steel lines can be brazed, replaced with hoses, or worst case, fabricated.

I agree with Traditional Fatmer. It is a Long 460, 510, or a 560. Built by UTB in Romania. They were assembled in Tarboro, NC. Having a 360 and a 445 in my shed and a brother with a 610, I'd love to have it for parts if nothing else.

(quoted from post at 20:42:38 04/05/21) The rear tire is mounted backwards. Wonder why.

The easy/fun answer is the owner was too stupid to know which way the tire went. Point and laugh. Act like you were the first to notice.

Most likely the tire went flat when the farmer needed the tractor. He had a spare on a rim/wheel, but it was mounted for the right side of the tractor. Only way it would fit on the tractor is backwards. You can bet he was back up and running in an hour, vs. half a day if he fixed the flat or tore this one apart just to get it facing the right direction. There was intent to fix it "someday" but if you've been farming for any time at all, you know there is always a pile of "someday" projects waiting to get done. Paying a tire guy $200 to change a tire on a $500 tractor doesn't seem fiscally wise, especially if you don't have the $200 to begin with...

Looks like it's at a dealer. Do they really want $500 for it? That's a $3000 tractor around here. They'd let it go at the annual clearance auction for $500, but you could not walk into the sales office and buy it for $500. Their best deal would be $2900, take it or leave it.

It's a Long 560. My dad's is sitting up at the farm. The oil pump doesn't want to build up pressure when you start the tractor. You have to remove the oil filter and pour some oil in. The tractor has only 2,000 to 3,000 hours on it. Not a very durable tractor. Engine made in Romania. Are you going to have to buy tires for it?

Looks a lot nicer than mine. Mid 70's 65hp long 560. Cost about $5000 new .had mine for many years. parts are no problem. haven't needed any. Pto is very unhandy to use but it works. Have baled and pulled the grain drill with it but primarily a raking tractor. 7th gear about 1/3 throttle pulling 2 nh 256 rakes. will rake many acres on 10 gal fuel. looks like a consignment sale. Bet you won't get it for 500.
