WD 40 or JD R with bad pony.

They are so much different that only you should be a part of the decision. Wd40s are handy nimble well powered. TheJD none of the above, but massive cool to watch run and brutal require effort to start. neither can be considered a comfortable to drive tractor. Jim

JD Pony motors are not cheap to work on, neither are IHC gas start diesels, check the price of parts. Both are heavy and expensive to haul to shows unless you can drive it.

I would think the 1950 JD will hold it's future collector value somewhat better than a 1930's IHC. If the WD-40 does not have electric start the potential future buyers drops by 90 percent.

Drive them both and then determine which one floats your boat.

holy smokes u better jump on that 40! worth a lot more than that old R. also did you know this was the first diesel model for each tractor. ihc had that diesel engine developed by 1934. it took john deere another 15 years to get their diesel R rolling. and for the first diesel its not a very powerful tractor. it dont even have a centre main brg. the WD40 has no starter but i can have it running before u get that R diesel running with that horizontal 2 cyl pup. plus the old 40's have a pretty good value to them. they are one tough tractor. ihc went backwards with the WD9 after them. plus the td14 and 18 have the same sleeves and pistons. i had an R once because it was cheap it was pretty gutless. not like my WD40 i can pull 4/16 plow in 3rd gear and it dont know the plow is behind . and 3rd is the top gear. wanna see me pulling it look on u tube wd40 tractor pulling in westlock. i have outpulled the R'S , 820. and even an 830 sometime. case 900 and and any ihc tractor up to the 660.

i used to tell my guys, there is lever A and lever B. so if u dont know what ur doing lever B, the green gets the B , cause its not red leave it in the shed.

geez, never thought of that, would have been good for a crowd laugh. then hook on the sled and get another full pull. all the kings Deere's and all the kings men could not hold my tractor down. lol.

By all means, take the R! I have one. Its a powerful tractor. I spent 80 hours on mine last year, and its relatively comfortable, for as old as it is. I have more confidence in the R starting in any weather, than I do in any diesel pickup. Its easy to handle. And the best part, it barely uses an fuel.

I would be thinking that there compared to the other old tractors of them years. We were one year helping a friend do field work, plowing, disking and planting because he got hurt and there was a R there my friend had and him an I were disking and he ask if I would like to drive the R. So when I did on all the ruff plowing it rode a lot nicer then the A or G.

I cant help but notice how many times that people have to trash talk other peoples favorites rather than talk up their own, makes me think they must have a little inferiority complex about their favorites.

JD R any day,, I like the sound of the two banger dsl under load, personally would not even consider the other one other than to buy it dirt cheap and sell it

Its your money buy what ever you want do you like international or John Deere or do you not like either
