Went to a farm sale today that had a generous collection of guns. This one was an old Damascus Barrel 16 gauge with external hammers. It was old. It has this big hole blowing out in the side of it.

Shouldn't have used that new fangled smokeless powder. Did you buy it? A little JB weld would fix it right up.

From the title I first thought of the town, Gun Barrel CO. I know someone in nearby Niwot. And one of our boys lives in Lafayette.

Pound a piece of 16 gauge sheet metal over the whole weld it up good as new. I really hope that didnt kill someone when that happened.

Yeah. I got my FIL's old 38 out one time. It had a loose cylinder that didn't fit tite against the barrel. Test fired it a few times with me hiding around the corner of the barn and it fired ok. When I shot it normally I could feel little specks coming back at me. Needless to say it was retired from use.

(quoted from post at 09:06:29 03/14/21) An interesting wall hanger, to bad you don't know the story behind it.

Classic barrel obstruction blow out. Damascus or not, it happens.

my brother had a black powder rifle blow up in his face due to improper cleaning and using the wrong powder, that's what remington told him in denying his lawsuit, so yea shouldn't use that dawgone new powder...no joke!

Well I guess it could have blown out. The ends look folded in to me unless that is what happens when they blow out.

I'd bet $ the sharp ends were folded in to avoid people cutting themselves on it.
