I am looking for some 11/16” hard chrome rod to make a replacement steering cylinder rod for an old Ford 555 backhoe. Does anyone know of a place that might carry that size and be willing to ship? Thanks.

I would imagine your local hydraulics shop or machine shop would be able to help you.

I have tried the local sources and I can have it custom made
but no one carries the raw material. I suspect it would be
cheaper to buy a whole new cylinder if I have to have the rod
made.

It IS available.
I had to replace a rod in a steering cylinder last tear. Mine was rusted as well as bent.
I bought the rod from the place below then machined it. They keep a Lot of rod in stock but had to special order this 11/16" size.

Perfect, that’s exactly what I need to make. The one I have here is badly bent and quite galled.

I would search on Ebay. Last year I bought a cut length off there for about $20 to rebuild the steering cylinder on my Gleaner combine. Worked out great and was very reasonable. I remember seeing all sorts of chrome rod for cylinders on there.
