Ih 674 stuck valve

Hey all, I posted a couple weeks ago about
no compression on 3 out of the 4 holes on
my 674. It was stuck valves. I got most of
them working again but I have one that I
lightly tapped all the way down to where
the spring is completely compressed. Any
idea on how to get these to pop loose
without tearing the head off? Thanks.

just pull the head. that way the valves can be removed and the guides cleaned with a bore brush and lubed and put together after an inspection of everything. meaning it might be due for a valve job anyhow. plus why keep the rust and carbon in the guide to continue wearing them out, plus when they are that tight very good chance they will stick once the engine warms up anyhow. do it right. but if you dont feel that is the best thing to do see if it can be pryed up with a screw driver through the plug hole. i know i just pull the heads in these situations.

Take both rockers off the valves for that cylinder. Then spray some lube into the sparkplug hole. try to get some on the back side of the valve face. Next, take a length of 1/4 inch rope and stuff into spark plug hole filling the cylinder as much as possible. leave the rope thru the plug hole to get it out later. Turn over the engine very slowly and do not force any hard resistance. The rope and piston will push the valve back up. Repeat if necessary

Agree, this works. Turn By hand, nit the starter. Jack up one wheel, and put it in direct drive 5th gear. turn the tire. Jim

Can you pinch the spring retainer on the top of the valve with a water pump pliers..Channelock.. and pull it up? Maybe even find something to set on the head as a fulcrum to pry up on the pliers with a screwdriver while you are squeezing.

Good Evening langdangnebraska

I don t know if your engine is gas as do not work on tractors .
If its a gas engine , I ve taken a old sparkplug & WELDED A 1/4 Pipe connector to the metal base after getting rid of the ceramic glass & electrode screwed in a male air fitting & put air in the cylinder to force the valves up after a good soaking .I ve had good luck doing that .
