Can the local electrician, bend a 1 in 1/8 in wall tubing, or how do i do it so it doesn't crush. he was suppose to call me back, yesterday but never did !!

how sharp of bend ? i have filled tubes with sand and then bent but i have a harbor fright hyd. bender.just made doors for our Can am hd8 and bent 3/4 by 14 gauge square tube and never crushed a bend

You can try bending it with a 1" EMT bender, but it's not going to give a good bend because it will be a loose fit. And that is heavy wall for the bender, might break it.

I doubt a muffler shop will have dies that small.

There are machine shops that bend tubing, just have to call around, see what's out there.

Yes they can. I’ve bent 1MT If you are not too far away, I would bend it for you. Where are you located?

A muffler bender will do it, BUT you need to bend it a little over what angle you want because it will spring back a little! Jim in N.M.

1/1/8 is pretty thick. It's like black pipe. My bender wont touch it. Houever you can make a nice sweeping(3 to 6inch) bend with a torch. Just heat a narrow area, bend it just a touch. Move over a bit and do it again. After several small bends, you have your curve.

Look up your local speed shop and ask them who might have a Hossfeld bender.
Or go directly to a hotrod or race car chassis shop.

If your local exhaust shop can't do it they might know who has one.

What is going to be a problem is the 1" pipe. My brother in-law had an exhaust shop for all the years he worked. I believe the smallest pipe he could bend was like 1-1/2". That was the smallest set of tools he had for his bender. That size is about as small as you will see on any car.

Good Luck

What’s your location? I’m an electrician and could more then likely bend that for you. We have hand and hydraulic benders. I am also located in North Mankato, Mn.

Steve it would be 1 in OD, and 5/8 ID, it for a hand rail, on a tractor cab, so it would have to be a pretty small radius also, with only the 31 degree bend !!

Well done gentlemen! Your offers of help show the spirit of the forum. From this side of the pond it would seem unlikely that an exhaust bender would be small enough. Once pipe starts to collapse it’s no more than scrap. There are plenty of electrician’s pipe bender stands that are used for conduit but may not be up to the job. Going back around 45 years to my engineering college days I remember that an alternative way of bending smaller pipes was to fill it with sand and drive a tapered plug into each end. If you have something solid like a gatepost or even the tractor drawbar or suitable frame you can bend pipe in small steps without it collapsing.

1 1/8 = 1.125 trade size 1 inch rigid conduit is 1.315 close but no cigar . Conduit is trade sized not actual size. Pretty sure any non-conduit pipe I tried to bend at work kinked.

Fast, now that I know that, why don't you just cut it at 15 degrees, flip one piece 180 and weld it back together. Take the grinder to it and presto.

Good idea or a cut a slot, put a shaft on the inside, and some heat on i and bend it, weld the slot shut, that will work too. The electrican called me back, he didnt see it in his E mails,LOL!

Go to HF and buy a hydraulic pipe bender. They work great for pipe 1/2" up to 2" I use mine all the time for projects like you describe. It works great to straighten out bent cylinder rods also.------------------------Loren

For a conduit bender to work properly the pipe has to be a standard size, unless you have special dies. It might be easier to use a standard size pipe, then it can be bent easily.

Not sure what you have but bending is not that hard if you have a little extra pipe and some material on hand. If you rim or something of the right diameter. Weld something on to clamp the end of pipe to it. or if lots of extra weld pipe to rim. slip a pipe over it and start going around the rim. rim must be tight to something of course.

filling with sand helps but no nesasary. I have also got it nice and hot,ALMOST red , and that helps if is real thick pipe.
