Electrical issues

I'm having electrical issues. I've fried my starter twice! A little more history. I have a 1963 case ck backhoe that I rescently purchased. I've disconnected the backhoe from the tractor to change out some hydraulic hoses. Since disconnecting, I haven't been able to start it. Thinking it was a battery issue, I bought a new battery. Hooked it up, and fried my starter twice. It is a 12 volt system! My question is, is this tractor a positive ground system? If so, I hooked up my battery the wrong way. Before doing this again I need some answers. HELP PLEASE.

I think Eagle beagle is on to the problem. If not that specific issue, another. Starter motors are intermittent use only. They must never be operated more than about 20 seconds. They
appear as a near dead short across the battery, and must cool for 3 times longer than the time cranking. Slow cranking, lack of spark, small cables, and deadheaded hydraulics, are deadly on
starters. They are not like an AC motor that can run for days without heating. Jim

As previously stated you blocked the two hydraulic lines as if the system was closed center . instead of joining them as with an open Center system .

Should I connect the two lines I disconnected from the. backhoe together that should solve the problem? If so, thank you very much, and God bless

When you upgrade a machine from megative ground to positive you do not have to reverse your starter. The starter does not care.

Yes
Your pump pressure is locked as mentioned.

Gentlemen, thank you. I connected the two ends together, and now the engine turns over as it should. Old dog, new knowledge. No more bogging down.
