Ford PTO issue

whity

New User
New to the forum. I have a Ford 1710. Just had the 2 stage clutch replaced. I have only had the tractor 9 months. Great work horse. The issue I'm having is. When I attach my brush cutter it has no problem engaging. After an hour it pops out and won't stay engaged till the tractor cools off for a few hours. Then it's good for half our or so. Any idea if the detente spring is worn or anything else? I'm only cutting grass with it. the brush cutter is a 5' Red Bee

The internal overrunning clutch was only used with the single stage clutch. When it pops out of gear does the PTO shift lever move to the off position?

The lever stays up but rests and grinds till I push it completely out. Seems like when it
s warmed up, there's some slop to engage it but doesn't fully engaged. Like a 1/2 inch of slop at the engagement point.

There is very little play in the roll pin you're talking about. I'm pretty sure it's internal. What holds the lever in the engage position? Is it the detente spring and ball? When I pull the lever all the way up it seems to fall down just a little like something is worn inside.

yes, the detente spring and ball is what should hold it in place. Sometimes the rail will get a grove worn in it so the ball won't stay in the notch.
