Was bored today so I decided to get out the old Toro. Ran remarkably well for not being started in 8 years.

I have simular in 30 inch cut with ride on cart. Hasnt ran in 20 + years. Got from cousins husband for the iron B&S engine.

Looks like a professional model, like what a landscaper or golf course might have. Any idea of how old it is?

Amazing to me that the Wisconsin single cylinders would always start even when hot, but a V4 was a real pain to start when hot & often wouldn't until it cooled off.

When I was starting out in grade school (early 1950's) the school had one of those hooked to a single wheel sulky. THe engine on this one doesn't look like what was original- at least not like the one I remember.

As near as I can tell, this is the original engine. I had been sitting un-used for several years and was going to be scrapped when I got it 35 years ago. The gas tank was missing and the spindle shaft was ruined. I had a new shaft made and retro fitted a Briggs gas tank. Used a small serpentine belt to drive the blade. I'll bet the whole mess weights about 4/500 lbs. It has a 2 speed drive (different size pulleys) and in the low speed will drag you around at a pretty good clip.

Last time I ran it I drained the tank and ran it out of gas. A little gas in the spark plug hole and a couple of pulls on the rip cord ad it was off to the races (literally).
