Bill hooks

Are they supposed to have a small notch where the twine lays in/over, or is that a wear problem? Had issues with knot not coming of hook last year, a new to me AC 303. Someone told me that was for plastic twine, but that didn't sound right. Getting ready to go and polish it up some more, but don't want to waste time doing that if hooks are bad. Tension spring is pretty much all the way out on bill hook adjust. Should I polish inside the jaw too? Bottom?

The notch is from wear. If it gets real bad it can make it harder for the knotters to sweep the twine off. Bill hooks should be smooth and polished. I've never seen a bill hook made with a notch, but there are a great many things I've never seen.
