High hour tractor

I was just at a repair shop and there was a 6400 Deere there and it had 41,000 hours. It has been a tmr mixer tractor at a big dairy since new. It did not look to bad either for those hours. Tom

That is very impressive, must be getting top notch maintenance, plus Ive heard those TMR mixers are very rough on PTO systems. I suppose its possible it May still have the original rubber on it.

Did they say if it had ever been rebuilt? A friend of mine has a bio mass generator on his dairy farm, they milk about 250 cows. He told me the engine needs a rebuilt after 40,000. They have a spare, and it is about a days work to swap one out, and the other back in. Methane burns much cleaner than diesel, more like Propane. And when they do an schedule oil change, the oil still looks like new.. With this knowledge in mind, if that tractors engine hasn?t been rebuilt in the past. , it?s probably due

I seen a IHC, cant remember the Number, but it had 30,000, two brothers had it on a feed wagon,Near Belle Plain Minn, it was kept in a heated shop every nite, they believed in 30 weight oil, that looked nice too!

The tractor he is talking about had a complete new engine at 17,000 hours. The current engine started using coolant last fall and sat since early winter. It's waiting for a space in my shop right now. A lot of idling time running a tmr.

My 4230, also a TmR tractor is over 37,000 hours today. Lots of idling and puttering around. Has had two engine rebuilds, one clutch in 37,000 hours.

Mine records hours at a given RPM, the newer one you had seen shows hours the same no matter what the engine speed. I'd be curious how much difference there is.

The meter not lasting is true of older mechanical hour meters. Not a 100 percent sure but I think that new of a tractor has a digital hour meter. In some cases a 4 or 5 digit display is selectable to change what it reads. You may choose to display engine or PTO rpm, mph, etc. or engine hours. Which by the way are stored in the tractors PCM...power control module... and if a PCM replacement is needed the hours are transferred into the new one.

TMR= total mixed ration - corn silage. hay silage , concentrates, minerals maybe some dry hay all mixed to make a feed. Often called mixer wagons.

I saw a JD R in Fairview, Ok. tractor show yrs. ago that had 21k hrs. and had not been touched. The 1 owner, drove it to the show from the hay field. It looked nice with original paint....well cared for.

I did a class one time and We had manuals from IH that stated to use 30 weight oil year round and if you had low temperature equip the engine with a good block heater.

If they milk 3X daily the tractor almost never gets started cold which eliminates a lot of wear.
