We are looking at a 1720 and are hoping it has a cheap fix.
We have engine oil coming out of this hole (see pic). Can anyone tell me what is missing here?

According to the FIAT on-line parts lookup you are missing "Plug, Blank, 6.5 x 7mm Product No: SBA198466030".

It appears to be a little steel plug that gets tapped (with a hammer) into place.

I'd clean the hole with a rolled up rag soaked in Brake Kleen, then put a little high strength Loctite on the new plug before tapping it into place.

Don't get any dirt, or leave any of the rag, or lots of Brake Kleen in the hole, as it is an oil gallery to the crankshaft bearings.

You can get a new plug #SBA198466030 through your FIAT/dba New Holland dealer for some $3.00.

We ve also thought the plug was missing, however someone gave it a quick paint job and it looks as though there s something else missing as well and has left its outline in the paint... have any ideas?

I don't think anything else is missing, what you are seeing is an "artifact" from when the engine block was machined at the factory.

Those little plugs are apparently known to pop out from time to time, pop in a new one and all should be well.

Sometimes a fix IS simple!

(quoted from post at 07:38:32 04/16/20) :D thank you so much... for $3.00 how can we go wrong :D

You mentioned you are considering buying this tractor.

The only way you could "go wrong" is if the current owner ran it long enough to leak enough oil to starve the bearings.

Probably NOT likely, but I just wanted to mention that POSSIBILITY.

Please post back and let us know how this plays out!

The tractor was sitting right where the hole started squirting out oil... when we picked it up we added more oil and started it only long enough to lift the loader and winched it up on to a trailer. Let s hope they did t run it to long

Those are called gallery plugs. Oil has get to a lot of different places in the motor which calls for a lot of internal passages. Some of them have to start from the outside but the oil is not wanted on the outside so a plug is put in.
