lots of entertainment in the hay field

Three days some coyotes or maybe a cougar killed a mule deer in my hay field. Didn't take long for the scavengers to arrive and clean it up.. Just a few bones and hide for me to remove today. At one time there was 4 golden eagles, 2 bald eagles and then 1 turkey vulture by itself with numerous magpies and ravens. Good way to spend some time watching out the patio window. Near the end of the second day I moved what was left closer to the house so I could get better pictures.

I'm not saying you didn't see 4 golden eagles but the two eagles in the pics are of a two bald eagles. One older than 4 years & one younger than 3-4 years. I'm kind of a birder & it is easy to mistake them. It's almost impossible to identify them while in flight but standing you can tell by the feathers by the lower legs. Thanks for posting the real cool pics. I know of 4 eagle nests within 15 miles of me in SW Iowa.

Thanks for the comments gmcool, I should have checked with MrGoogle first, I do believe you are right, there were at one time 4 juveniles and two adult Bald Eagles enjoying a meal. I live in the Okanagan valley in southern BC. where bald eagles are common although Golden eagles are not unheard of.

I've been through the Okanagan valley lots of times as we lived in Faro Yukon Territory for 19 years. The fruit in the Okanagan is unbelievable as you already know.

I enjoyed the picture's. I've seen two magpies back a 17 pound tom cat away from it's food years ago. One would come straight on while the other would attack the cat's side.

That is crazy if coyote are taking mule
deer down. They've been getting a few
whitetail here lately, or so it seems.

We get juvenile bald eagles here every
spring for years now, saw a mature one this
morning and have seen the younger ones all
around my 20 acre pond.

Hey Leon, great pics for sure. We have a taxied cougar in our museum,I think it came
in from north of LLB lake. Dan

Were you employed by the lead zinc mine there. I had to look up where Faro is and it showed the mine so I searched for the mine story.

No we bought our home for pennies on the dollar after the mine closed. There was housing for 3400 people & when we bought 104 people lived there. We truly had a pick of any house we wanted. We chose a 3220 sq ft cedar home with a great S-SW view of the Pelly River Valley. The wild life in that area is unbelievable. We bought a Polaris Ranger as there were more miles of groomed trails than there were of paved roads. Some of the scenery is indescribable. We sold everything a couple years ago. We miss the north country every day though. Gerald
