Old knobby tires

Any one remember using these tires. Dad would have them on our OLD 1/2ton in the fifties. With a few bags of wheat in the back for
weight you could buck a lot of snow. The ones I remember had round knobs..

How about the old bar/lug tread? They had the round knob and a bar about twice the width of the knob at an angle.
I grew up driving a 1935 Ford 1 1/2 ton with them on the rear. Harder than hockey pucks. Wore like iron.

Dad had a '56 F350 single rear wheel pickup, had for the time, odd-ball tires, like a 7.50x17. The ribbed frt tires were available, but only those knobbed drive tires still around in the early 1960's when he had it. They were just a little worse than terrible. The slightly longer than normal wheelbase made the rearend really light, and the 292 V8 and 4-speed made for lots of wheel speed when spinning the tires.

Yes, remember them well. In fact I might have a few carcasses left here on old machinery or wagons.

Just my entry. My mom's car had a set of recaps with those around 1973. Both of
my folks swore by them. They made a cute pattern in the snow. I always thought
it looked like the tile floor in the old school building. Those black and white
hexagons about an inch across. What a strange lifestyle we live.

My 1950 Willys pickup, that had sat from 1968 to 2017, had a pair of those on the front. They were still holding air and in good shape. They were BF Goodrich.

Whydaya think the old short Jeeps with those skinny knobby tire were the best snow runners ever seen?
