Ever see anything like this?

Yes. When I was a kid I wanted to know how everything worked. So took everything apart. This is one of the options of 9v battery construction. If you meant something else then probably not.

I found this in a drawer. Didn't do anything to it.
There's a little melted plastic near + Terminal. Guessing it shorted out.

What is the length of the blue cell? I worked for a company that used similar battery packs for portable 2 way professional grade radios. The pack was about 3 or 3 1/2 inches long but I don't remember if they were 9 V or some other voltage.

Don't put one of those in your pocket with your change wow I found out the hard way. or should I say the hot way.

Joe Newman used those in series to run his energy machine. The machine put more back into the battery's than what it used. Some blew like that too.

Really a common way to make a 9 volt battery. They have six batteries inside, each one is the same as a AAAA size battery. The negative and positive look backwards. Six of them in series makes a 9 volt.
