Can't use bucket to lift the tractor without strain on shaft

Can't use bucket to lift the tractor without strain on engine shaft wobbling & loud noise. I think it's cause we added power steering to tractor, welding frame that supports pump to frame of self contained hydraulic fluid steel tubing framing. Should I redo & weld power steering pump to frame of tractor?

If I am following you correctly you mounted pump to loader frame. That frame likely has quit a lot of movement separate of the tractor when using loader. The pump should be mounted solid to tractor, and not the loader frame.

You are correct, the loader can flex a half inch and make real problems mounted to the loader. I also agree the metal is too thin for that span and position. Jim

If you are going to mount the pump on a plate, even with a flex coupling, the alignment is still critical. Any flexing or mis alignment, especially stress related mis alignment will be destructive.

What I've seen done is a short solid shaft, no flex coupling. Then the pump just hangs on the shaft with a strap to prevent the pump from spinning.

It looks like the pump is sagging but maybe the sag comes from the angle of view. I agree with the rest of the guys it needs to be mounted to the engine or tractor frame with at least 3/8 thick steel. 1/2" would be better. A flex coupler should be in the drive shaft. With the pump coupled solid you need alignment within thousandths or even ten thousandths of an inch accuracy if you want the pump bearings and the attachment to the front pulley to last and you can not get that kind of accuracy with a bolted on bracket. You might have to spend more than you planned on spending to purchase steel or have holes drilled or machining done at a machine shop to get the bracket made but it will pay off in the end. All you need to do is sit or lay under there and look it over. Then walk away for awhile and come back and look it over again. Sometimes it takes a few tries till the light bulb lights up.

I guess he could weld the loader frame to the tractor. HeHe. I also wonder about the hollow axle pin that the shaft goes thru, and how much that is moving around-----------------Loren
