Fun ride into the Keystone

Well that was a fun ride , my one buddy wanted me to go with him to look at a used Goat one ton 4X4 cab and chassis with the come apart and six speed , it was a 2013 . took the hour and a half ride over into the Keystone state only to look at one BIG red PIECE of JUNK , Pieces and parts missing lots of Micky mouse wiring two broken headlights two dented up fenders , caved in right rocker panel , totally broke down and ripped drivers set , a blind man could see the engine had been taken down not long ago , the Aluim. flat bed had LOTS of welding done by Larry Darell and Darell Rubber pad for the clutch pedal was gone , top engine cover was GONE and i did not crawl under it to wiggle and jiggle any of the drive shafts or look for leaks or other imperfections in that fine piece of automotive JUNK that they wanted almost 20 grand for. SOOOOOO anybody looking for a Dodge/Ram 3500 Cummins six speed with a flat bed Don't waist your time as it is total unadultry JUNK>

Well i don't think 20 grand is a cheap set of wheels , this dealership is a new car dealership that goes to auctions and buys trucks of all brands and puts a shiny detail work on them and trys to stiff you with junk with a fast talking Weasel . My buddy is in a bind and needs a Newer truck and needs it NOW as he is out of wheels . His truck just dumped the transmission and the left ft.cab mount gave way and his back up car was totalled here a couple weeks ago by a person with no insurance and has skipped town and fell off the ends of the earth . He was ready to buy had it been as they claimed.

Does your hard luck buddy really NEED a "newer" tonner work truck, or a basic vehicle to commute to work?

Even if he needs a "tonner" WHY does it have to be "newer"?

A basic "sound" older truck that gets the job done and can be worked on by a simple man with basic tools is a LOT more useful than a "newer" unit off of warranty that has to go to the stealership for most everything, IMHO.

Went to look at an old truck one time that looked pretty good in the pictures until I got there the entire right side was caved in the cab top was bent so bad that the door had a 6 inch gap between door and cab needles to say I want impressed but the engine sounded good ?I?m sure that?s what you were most concerned about ? the guy said? I said no the engine was the least of my worries I just parted out one with 520,000 miles on it I know the engine is good it?s the rest I cared about .

(quoted from post at 23:51:21 11/01/19) Some people actually use one ton trucks not
everyone can get but driving a mini van

ABSOLUTELY, SV!

NOT sure where you're going with your comment, I simply asked if the person in question really needed a "tonner" and if it HAD to be a "newer" one.

And, yes, I own a tonner, an old '95 Chevy 6.5 TD 5-speed, "Holly" is her name, after the previous owner's GF, and she does all I ask of her.

IIRC, you make do with an older truck, as well?

Question to ask oneself before going on one of these time-wasters: If it's such a bargain, why hasn't somebody local already nabbed it?

Mark, to me, in this age of quick and easy world wide communications that question would not even enter my mind.

YUP it is a dual porous vehicle and serves many rolls , one it takes him back and forth to work , then on the way home it m ay pick up a couple ton of soy bean meal. Or it might drag six ton of fertilizer home in a spreader , then it might go to and on farm kill and haul a1500lb or more cow to the butcher shop , then it may drag the 28 foot goose neck to the field for 28 round bales and haul them the eight miles home . Or it may have up to eight nine deer layen on the deack if we all have a good first day as we have in the past . And WHY NOT get something newer since his 2001 has over 400000 miles on it and needs a transmission 1500 bucks , needs a new cab and all the rest of the sheet metal and everything else is plum slap wore out . I have had one tons since 1990 and before that we had 3/4 ton four wheel drives BEFORE the rest of you even thought about a 4X4 . Why did i go one ton ?? well because i needed something that i could use when going to the smaller scales where i was not able to buy a semi load as what i bought still needed to be brought home or to another sale and you paid the same price for a 1/4 of a load as a stacked up on from ft to back and 12 foot wide . So a one ton fit the bill and i skated around the NEW and improved trucking laws . It also got to the point that a 3/4 ton was NOT enough truck for all m y tools and equipment and MY Goat and for you that don't know what a Goat is it is a Dodge one ton 4X4 dual rear wheels and mine has a box on the back and as mine sets at this moment i have 500 lbs of usable weight left to load on the truck before i exceed max gross weight of a 11000 GVW , in other words i don't have enough room to put and engine in the back and stay legal. But if i jump up to a 4300-4900 I H then i jump up in insurance cost many times fold . So far here in the Buckeye they have pretty much left us alone with goose neck hauling with a one ton , But you go either way out of The Buckeye you enter into another world and ya best have your Ducky's in order NOW Our you had best only have a single rear wheel truck with only a single wheel tandem . So why do we need dual rear wheel one tones because we use them and we need a real truck not a carpeted leather seated black top grocery getter Mega cab 4X4 diesel that will never get off the black top we need a TRUCK that will get cow manure on it in it fuel and oil spilled on it and covered in mud tyep truck with a standard transmission as we all can drive stick and it is a lot easier and cheaper to put a clutch in then to rebuild or replace a slush box since they have only ever two types of automatics and that is the one that is already out and the one that is going out . I get a kick out of my one old friend that he and i started at the same dealership two days apart , me as a mechanic and him as a young salesman , When Dodge/ Ram / GOAT came out with the new slush box he was telling me how great they were and they were BULLET PROOF and i laughed and he insisted that they were BULLET PROOF . Well since that time and that statement he has had to eat his words as it seems that everytime i go over there there is no less the one Goat up on the rack with the innereds or that Bullet proof trans scattered across two work benches all out of Working trucks that have dirt and mud and sometimes COW MANURE on them . BUT they will tell you how well they work and pull . all of us as in ALL my friends have Goats we all need new trucks , mine is a 95 , John 's is a 98 , Vernon's is a 2001 , Eugene's is a 2001 and bob's is the newest and it is a 2005 , all have been USED , all have been off road . BUT None of us can justify the cost of a brand new one . Last Brand new one i looked at and it was a plain jane work truck was 54978 dollsrs and Change plus tax Docking fee's and dealer prep and transportation charges and NO BED . Now you say look for used , yea sure they are NOT out there , When you do find USED in a diesel it is a 3/4 ton jacked up turned up blowed up at least twice and Micky MOUSED BACK TOGETHER JUST LIKE THE ONE WE LOOKED AT YESTERDAY ONLY IT WAS A DUAL REAR ONE TON . For me this 95 will have to last me till they throw dirt in my face and at the moment i have to repair the frame as the salt has taken it;s toll . Should have had that done already but i am running 2 and a half months behind this year and now that the weather has turned i am not going to be layen on the ground cutting out the sections and welding in the repair pieces .

I went to a one ton for the exact same reasons you did those four wheels in the back sure make a big difference when pulling a trailer and hauling big loads I?ve got a little bit of weight left I can add to the truck but I?ve almost got everything I need and drill want some capacity to pull a big trailer
