C.A.V. injection pump bleeder vent

Question for the injection pump rebuilders. Is there a reasonably effective repair for stripped threads in a DPA style pump housing where the bleed screw assembly threads into the housing other than replacing the housing?

Not a pump guy, but have done the repair a few times.

Drill and tap for a larger screw. Keeping the swarf out of the pump is key.

If it is in the one in the cover this is easy(take off cover and install new o-rings while there). The one in the body takes some creative thinking(keeping fuel coming out the hole so the chips do too...)

If memory serves, a 5/16-18 thread cleans it up, I use a copper washer under the head of a hex head cap screw.

The lower vent screw next to the tag is 5/16 fine thread, never saw one of those stripped as that bleeder threads into the steel hydraulic head. The top cover is 1/4 fine thread, that one could be repaired with a heli coil or go oversize to 5/16 as both use a copper gasket for sealing. A steel/rubber insert washer from Stanadyne could also be used in place of the copper gasket. They are available in both sizes.

First try a 5/16 X 1/2 NF bolt with a copper gasket, HOPEFULLY the hydraulic head threads are OK where the bleeder or bolt thread into. In my forty plus years of pump repair, I've never seen that bleed screw have trouble. It's always the top cover bleed screw. If the bolt does seal OK, send me an E-mail, [email protected] as I have that bleeder on hand.
