T0 Ferguson and ford N series whats the difference

A whole book could, and possibly, should be written about the differences and advantages of each. In my personal opinion the To Ferguson with the Continental engine was far superior to the Ford engine, but lacked the operator convenience of the 8 N but was equally as good and similar the 9 N and 2 N. The TE ferguson, European having the Lucas starter a poor started and was not interchamble with the Delco Remy of the TO.
In summary. in my opinion the TO was superior to the 2 n and 9 n but was not as good as the later 8 N in spite of the better Continental engine. The To had the almost same poor brake pedal location and the poor steering gear of the 2 N and 9 N

The early TO's, TO20, and TO30, very similar except the OHV engine.

The last model, TO35, had a high/low transmission range, and position/draft control on the hydraulics. The Deluxe model was available with spin out wheels, dual clutch, and power steering.

They do look similar. When I started mowing all I had was a TO20. What I didn't like about it, when mowing, if I pushed in the clutch is still continued fore ward for a few feet. This was because the mower rotation kept it moving. If you are thinking of getting one the are a good tractor, with out power steering. Stan

The TO Fergy was made with blueprints taken from Ford Motor Company( aledged), When ford and Ferguson split.Ferguson set up and made his own tractors using Ford prints. Many of the parts fit both.

You need to do a little research!

The original concept for the tractor known as the Ford 9N was designed by Harry Ferguson! He went to Henry Ford with the preliminary design, because Ferguson was an inventor and engineer, and Ford was a manufacturer. The only thing on the tractor "FORD" was the name and the Model A engine!

Only after Ford cancelled their famous "handshake agreement", and started building tractors using the "Ferguson System" without paying any royalties, did Ferguson enter the manufacturing business in the US!

That's why so many parts interchange!

Pretty sure it was based on the Model B engine.
My wife's granddad bought a factory rebuilt engine for his 2N back in the 50s and it turned out to be the same 4 cyl. engine block used in the 40s trucks........
Had a block off plate where the fuel pump would have been.

Lot of 39 Mecury car parts in engine. First engines did not have sleves in and cylinders were made fior the 39 Merc pistons, You cantake the thin wall sleve out and those pistons fit perfect. It was decided that with the amount of use the block would not hold up so solution was the .045 thick sleve to fit in the bore and then the pistons to fit the sleve. Brakes are from the 1.5 ton truck. Front wheel bearings are 35-39 ford car and the hubs fit perfect.
