OUCH

Hmm. It looks suspiciously like it was photoshopped. Notice the shadow around the bike and wheel. None of the other objects in the picture have that.

Where did the brake caliper and axle go? Why is the wheel below the bike and ahead of it? Doesn't gravity affect all objects the same?

Yep, OUCH!

And I'll counter with:

Not to be a downer, but I knew a guy that died from something like that. Only he was on a bicycle! City kid rode everywhere, went to jump the curb and his front tire came off. Took a header over the handle bars right onto the sidewalk. Woke up in the ambulance on the way to the hospital; where they figured out the seriousness of his injuries -he didn't have any health insurance. Sent him home with minimal treatment. Ice bag and sheet of destructions of what to do and not to do for a mild concussion. One was not to fall asleep and to have someone wake him up if he did for next several hours. He lived in a bachelor pad with two other guys. At least he died in his sleep.

I 'm not buying it . The axle on a dirt bike is captured by the forks. At least any I have. That did happen to a top fuel rider on a bike named Crazy Horse once . He rode the bellypan down the track never laying the bike down. It was a young kid pilot.

A boy here rode his bicycle to a nearby
gas station. Was riding back with a can
of gas on his handlebars. Fell on
sidewalk and died.

I actually had that happen--the back left wheel, brake/drum and axle became disconnected from the truck. Come to find out Chrysler was making Cherokees and Commanchees and lubricated the rear wheel bearings with packed bearings instead of the oil in the differential.
All you can do is take your foot off the gas and hang on.

Right. Whoever 'shopped this pic must have figured that most folks have never removed a front wheel from a motorcycle. But most folks have taken off a bicycle wheel, and it IS possible for an unloaded bicycle wheel to fall off. In fact newer bicycle forks have "lawyer lips", which are ridges that prevent the wheel from falling off unless the quick release is really loose.

On all the newer motorcycles I've messed with, the front axle goes through a hole in the right fork, through the hub, then screws into threads in the left fork. Once the axle is screwed in tight, you tighten a pinch bolt on the right fork that prevents the axle from turning.

So... for a front wheel to turn off, the pinch bolt must be loose. That's certainly possible. But then the axle has to unscrew several turn, which is VERY UNLIKELY, because the forward rotation of the wheel will tend to turn the axle CLOCKWISE, making it tighter. And even if the axle did unscrew, it's unlikely it's going to fall out at the instant the rider makes a jump. And none of this explains the mysterious disappearance of the front brake caliper.

It's a fake, and not a very good one.

Neighbor buddy did that on his bicycle, on his birthday. I remember him pulling the wheelie on his gold Schwinn with the three speed on the center bar. Tire fell out, he dropped it down and stopped immediately- over the bars and busted a front tooth. great way to spend probably his tenth or eleventh birthday- friends watching you bawling', blood all over, Mom and ice pack running out the front door...

No height involve,d but I had the fork break on a bicycle, tire went west and the handlebars went up and I Almost did a faceplant in the middle of the street.
