Hello i was wondering where to find the serial number on a 8N massey Ferguson ford 1952-1958. And the manual.

It is either one or the other it cannot be a MF and Ford. Looks to be a mutt. Serial number will be on a flat spot just below the head just back from the oil filter. Looks to have 2N or 9N front axle. If it has a 4 speed it ha an 8N transmission. If it has a 3 speed it has an 9n/2n transmission

The 9N and 2N were labeled "Ford - Ferguson System".
That was long before there was a connection between Massey-Harris and Ferguson.

Looks like an 8N clutch/brake pedal setup.
Can't quite see where the radius rods attach to the front axle - center axle or knee? - but probably an 8N with 9/2 front hubs.

That is a 2N front end and hood. It is the tubluar wishbone and not the I beam used on a 9N and the 2N had the hood mounting bolts in the doglegs while the 9N had bolts hidden under the front of hood to mount it. I have both a 9N & 2N with the 2N being with me for 75 years with me being 8 months old when it came to me.

John,
I just tried enlarging the photo and it looks like the radius rod is attached to the center axle and not the knee. If so, that would make it an 8N front axle wouldn't it? Except for the hubs of course. Yeah, why take the foot boards off?

Leroy,
The radius rods went from I-beam to oval sometime in 44 - midway through the 2N production. And I think the lower dogleg bolts changed fairly early. Before the 2N production started is my guess.

You are correct, Rich, as far as factory. Afterwards, anything is possible! I sold a fellow a new pair of Ferguson TO-20 brake shoes for his 8N. When I told him they wouldn't fit, he just grinned. Then he told me it had a Ford engine and transmission, but from the differential housing back it was a Ferguson 20. Bolted right up, which surprised me at first, until I realized Harry Frrguson designed them both!
