I replaced the points and condenser on my 1956 John Deere 430 with a Petronix ignitor. My question is should I change over to a hotter set of plug wires or just use the normal ones. Somewhere I think I read to not use the ones that are on it. Any tips on the ignitor itself would be appreciated. Thanks Todd

old is correct. Either resistor type (better quality if a choice), or magnetic suppression type wires (more expensive) O'rileys may not have a 4 cylinder kit! NAPA or others may. Call. Jim

Some of the Pertronix systems require suppressor type plug wires while others don't. CHECK WITH PERTRONIX and use what THEY recommend is my advise !!!!!! Some gents who run Pertronix components use a high voltage capacity coil (compatible with their chosen elec switch) and run a wider plug gap in which case firing voltages will rise and you need good quality high insulation rated plug wires and cap n rotor etc. Pertronix sells a solid state elec switch to replace mechanical point switching and they also sell coils of different capacities, but of course you can still use an old stock coil because all the elec switch does is replace the points. However, to get more bang for the buck if the switch has the capacity some match it to a high energy high voltage super coil and run a wider plug gap and the spark is of higher energy then a pure stock system.

Best wishes

Why a 4 cylinder kit when his tractor is a 2 cylinder and I am guessing he is correct on model but not on year as that is too old for a 430 and even too old for a 420, 56 would be a 40.
