I have a nice 5 ft. Befco mower on a Ford 9N. Rear discharge and it runs on 4 wheels with the 3 PT. QUESTION----Should it run level....Lower in the rear...higher in front other combinations. It is REAR DISCHARGE and a finish mower....thanks

A finish mower should run level since all it is, is an over size lawn mower and you want it to mow just like your push mower mows nice even grass

Typically, the blades on finishing mowers run slightly lower at the front.

For example, I just finished tuning up a John Deere "1435" with a 72" 3-blade mower, and the factory shop manual specifies that the blades run about 1/4" lower in the front than in the back.

John Deere (and I'm sure many others) sell a blade height gauge that makes checking this relatively easy.

Actually rotary mowers are recommended to run lower on the leading edge in order for the blade to cut the grass cleaner and only once.

I trust you and have found you to be pretty sharp but ever makers operator book will tell you to run to run the FRONT 1/4 in or more lower. That way you will not be cutting the grass twice, and it is really more important on the rear discharge mowers to do so. We used to sell 60 to 70 finish mowers a year now the zero turn mowers have just about killed the finish mower business. Might sell 4 or 5 a year and used ones are dime a dozen.

I run a 7 foot finish mower. I agree on the front being about a 1/4 inch lower than the back especially on a rear discharge to better distribute grass clippings.

You are correct. You NEVER run a finish mower level unless you want a clogged up mess and make it hard on the mower. Front end is always lower.
