Question for Case guys

As there were no Case around when I was growing up I don't know that much about them. When did the first hydrolic systen come for either the SC or the DC? And was it only for mounted implements like the cultivator or was it also for the remote cylinder at the same time. I know the Deere A & B could be gotten with either type hydrolic system from 45-46 to 52.

Great question, so I got out my book. The guy that wrote it wasn't much into the tractors or later model anything, he was very good with the steam engines, cars and threshers tho. As far as hydraulics they came out some time in the mid 40's. The only pic he showed of an early hydraulic system he mentions both 42 and 47. I think 42 it too early, but I know they had single hydraulics for sure by 47. The SC/DC came out with dual hyd with the eagle hitch in 52 and live hyd and PTO I believe in 53. The vac had eagle hitch sooner, I think in 49. Case never had hyd only for cultivator to my knowledge, they had a single valve and you used your implement hyd cylinder on the cultivator lift. Early models had a mechanical cultivator lift that worked off the PTO in the rear, the hyd cultivator lift used similar arms down by the hitch. Hopefully Loren or someone who knows will give an actual year.

Jon, what got me to thinking about it again was the post about the disk with the gear box to throw it in and out of gear. John Deere that I am familuar with had the wheel carried disk as far as I know from about 46 and with that you could raise disk to go over water ways and things like that. I was thinking Case did not have the cylinder lift for the plow and wheel dist that early so I just wondered if that was Case's way to get the disk across the water way without digging it up. Just a thought and wondered how close I was with my thinking. Did not know of what were Case dealers untill probably 90's I found about one that was no longer a dealer and then in the 00's or later found out about what had been a different dealer. But with Dealers like that no wonder there were not any tractors around to learn anything about them. Neither one was more than a one or two person dealership.

The first 1950 SC that we had,had those arms on it. They raised and lowered with a hydraulic cylinder. They were round bars that went flat at the end and had a big bolt hole in them. They mounted the same as the eagle hitch arms did on that DC that I sold to OldgentDC. The cylinder was two way.

Like Bill said first year was 1949 for the Racine built units, the VA series had a high pressure low volume hyd system in the early to mid 40's, the VA series came with Eagle Hitch and Live hyd, and could have remote hyd starting in 1949, the Racine tractors got EH in 1951, first ones had no live hyd or pto, that came in 1952 to Racine units, foot clutch came to them in 1953, Case offered remote cylinders they built starting in 1949

So then I dought if they built any cylinder lift machinery before 1949 So the disk with a gear box was probably a early way of getting it out of cutting mode for crossing those wateer ways before they got a wheeldisk. Would that be about correct.

Yes that is correct,, Case had the power lift on pull type implements, mounted units first used the axle driven power lift, then they changed that to Motor lift system that drove from the pto, then in 49 they added a hyd cylinder to the same bail lift system the Motor lift used, unit 51 when they EH came into being on the Racine units, I forgot the VC had a hyd lift unit in later production 1941 I am thinking,, they are pretty rare though as they were a late production change right before the VA series came out in 1942,

I thought they had a lift that worked off the PTO. Moline had that and Deere had a unit for the cultivator that could br put on any row crop tractor from 1934 to 1946. that was not equiped with a hydrolic lift. When you only see things at shows you do not have the time to look at things in depth and then a lot of times nothing to say the year of the display so then you don't know if early or late unit to know when change was made. The first Case I remember seeing was a RC in factory grey paint in about 58 and then a long time till anouther Case.
