Fertilizer auger

The flighting in my fertilizer auger was worn and rusted down to about an inch. I could have moved more fertilizer with a drinking straw than was going through that thing,so I took it apart and put new flighting in it. I had no idea that bolt would come out so easy or that it would slide off the shaft on the hydraulic motor as easy as it did or I would have just reached down through the outlet instead of unbolting the head and sliding it apart. The center shaft was in real good shape once I got all the old flighting cut off and got all the scale ground off of it. It should move some fertilizer now.

I always dump used oil through it when I'm done with it. Worked better than I thought it would. lol

Just bought new flighting and welded it to the old center shaft. Wasn't too bad a job at all. Just took some work with the angle grinder. I put new flighting on an auger in the grinder mixer a few years ago and it was just spot welded at each end. This one had about an inch of weld at every flight straight down one side. I welded it back up the same way.

Must be fertilizer equipment repair day, just got done rebuilding the drive on my tender. The old truck frame that it was on was rusted to the point of lace don't know how I got it across the road without it collapsing nothing left of springs and shackles or U bolts last two year used it with wood blocks holding it up. It was so bad that the top half of the differential pumpkin was rusted through. I put it on a 4 wheel wagon the farthest it goes is a mile and a half and back. Half of the PTO drive line was under the old truck frame that drives the cross augers, got rid of the old gear box driven inclined auger and put on a hydraulic motor. I used lots of never seize on everything I put back together. Hopefully I get to use it soon.

Now there is something to remember. It is amazing the uses you can put used motor oil to. I save all mine in jugs. I run out frequently. Means its time to change oil on something!

The last one I did was a Killbros unit. The center of the auger was just 1" pipe. A joint of pipe was much cheaper than the work required to clean the old flighting off.

If you go to a PVC pipe for the tube it will eliminate a lot of rusting.
I just replaced several sections of the plastic flighting in our seed auger.
