Hello,
I?ve been asked by my neighbor to sell her husbands tractor. He passed away from cancer a few years ago and she has no idea what this tractor is worth. Its an AC one seventy. Any Idea what she should get for it. She said she spent $1k last year having ?something done to the hydraulics?. Not sure yet what that was.

Post some pictures that will help.

Does it jump out of 3rd gear. Go down a fairly good hill in 3rd gear and see if it jumps to neutral, that will tell you if it jumps out of gear.

If you cannot get a good idea of what it is worth, I would place it in a large consignment auction this fall or even better next spring. The market will tell you exactly what it is worth.

Would not do this. Neighbor asked you to help sell tractor, not to kill yourself. Even if it has brakes and you know how to use them, still would not attempt.

In addition to photos, it would also help to know if it was gas or diesel........and condition of the tires.

In the meantime, this might help.......consider these top of range prices......

At the bottom of this link is an option to view recent auction results.......what these have sold for at auction. Those will be the bottom of the range.

I'm told a 170 was more or less the same tractor as a D17 series 4 with different sheet metal. Lot of D17's out there for price comparison.

A nice original one owner 170 gas with 2500 hours sold here in ohio last summer for 4500 at the owners retirement auction.

They are a pretty good little tractor. I had one years ago and did a lot of work with it. The Perkins diesel was pretty strong and started very well. The brakes are not the best so those should be checked out as well as the jumping out of gear. Other than that, I think it would make you a good tractor.

Agree with FastFarmall. Check TH and then do the division. Those prices seem very high to me.

It will vary area to area on price too. Here no dealer support for even at the closest AGCO dealership. That greatly affects prices. Another thing that will affect prices is the demand for that size tractor in a give area.

So a an AC 170 here will bring 1/2 the money it will someplace else. Dealer support and too small for most operations in the area.
