Chevy long blocks

(quoted from post at 21:41:47 04/14/19) Are the parts store like Napa and carquest Chevy 350 long blocks any good
I've seen a couple of them come through with different heads on each side, making the compression ratio different on each side. Have also seen them mix pre 77 and post 77 timing covers making it hard to get them timed properly.

Personally, I'd look at a new GM replacement engine. I think the going rate at places like Jeg's and Summit is around $2000 with a GM warranty.

I don't recommend them.

They take a lot of shortcuts, like welded up cranks, reground cams, mismatched rods (balance issues), built by the finest minimum wage employees available...

If it's a late model, something currently in production, I would feel better about a low mileage salvage yard engine.

Otherwise, a factory new or high end rebuild from a reputable rebuilder.

GM had two different long blocks that could be had . One was painted black and from Mexico and other was painted blue and USA built.

. Goodwrench from your GM dealer . Summit Racing has rebuilds from stock , mild and wild for reasonable prices . iirc they did or do carry goodwrench engines .

Thanks for all the replies I?ll look into pricing and things a little bit I have a Buddy who?s a gas engine guy and he says no on the auto parts store engines this truck won?t see a thousand miles a year
