Hey Dean UP 4014 Fired up for first time

I am thinking they are pushing the wire a little to hard. Seems they got along ways yet to go on the project. Alot
of stuff yet to assemble. Seems they are running behind on the dead line. I am getting concerned and nervous about
how this turns out and being done on time.

They should be painting and test running by now I would think. It appears they don't have the cab and alot of
components on yet. You know, this is a massive project. One large enough, you know there's going to be some bugs
to work out once complete. That's what they should be doing now if running on schedule. The fact that steam crew
working overtime, and Ed Dickens posting very few updates, tells me they running way behind. If running ahead of
schedule, Ed would certainly be posting more updates. The oil convertion alone is in question, as to wether it
will power itself without coal. Having flame in firebox is one thing. Creating enough steam to power itself to
mobility is another. Having 200 lbs of steam sitting still is one thing, maintaining that pressure in motion is
another. Iam just hoping this project pans out, and don't backfire on them for completion date. Otherwise, it may
not power itself to spike anniversary, or bugs may have to be worked out after. I am crossing my fingers at this
point, and hoping things work out. Hoping spike anniversary don't end up being the first test run for this beast.
Just my 2 cents and concerns.

The cab has been on for quite some time.
The front engine was hooked back to the
boiler in February, and hydraulic testing
done late February/ early March.

They did a complete rebuild of the 844
before they could really get into the 4014,
and had to rebuild much of their machine
tools in the process. So they've pretty
well rebuilt their lathes and such,
installed a new overhead crane, and rebuilt
2 locomotives in 5 years.

TGP posted a you tube video in his repost. Says April update in the begining of video. At about 28 seconds, it clearly shows a cabless 4014. Also shows a fairly naked boiler and smoke box throughout video. It does show a fairly more complete fire box hole when showing the glow in fire box.

So is most of the footage in that video from a previous time?? I thought the norm for first fire up, was to do it with cab off. So if they have to go back into the fire box for some reason, the cab is already off. Is there some footage or pictures somewhere of a cab on, more complete looking 4014?? I am having an issue with my Facebook right now, and can't look at anything on facebook or join the steam Facebook page. Wondering if that's where some really updated stuff is at to look at?

A bit of History; the tag on 4014says it was built at the ALCO, American Locomotive Company, Schenectady New York.
The ALCO was out of business when they tried to retool for the diesel engine locomotives, as the engine blocks were cracking from the combustion pressure. They retooled to make the engine blocks from solid blocks and using an extrusion method to eliminate and casting blemishes. It was too late and ALCO closed. On the ALCO site in Schenectady, along the Mohawk River, there now stands a new casino, Rivers Casino, on Erie Blvd headed to Freemans Bridge and Scotia.
