Friend is looking for information on an old motor he has. Made in Milwaukee by Outboard Motor Corp. Serial # on it is 4090878. Lower unit is brass. I am guessing 1 cylinder, maybe around 3 HP. Google doesn't come up with anything worth while. Thanks.

Might check out this place.

They will probably know what it is, value, parts availability.

Being brass it will be quite oil, probably 20's era.

An old friend of mine that died about 10 years ago was into the old OMC outboards. He had a shop full of them, old ones, mid century models, factory racers, boxes of parts... A lifetime of collecting and restoring.

I never knew what happened to it all, I'm sure it got scattered and sold for pennies on the dollar. A real shame.

I think ScoutB has it right. If not, he's really close.
There is an old guy up the road from me who collects and restores
them. If you can't find anything, send me a picture and I will ask him.

Like Steve@Advance said, go to the Antique Outboard
Motor Collectors club website. The "Ask A Member" forum.
Things are a little touch and go there right now due to
the new website but someone will answer your question.
Tell your friend to be careful, those old outboard motors
are addictive! Before you know it you've got a garage full
of them.

I found this posted on MarrineEngine.com forum in response to a post about an “Outboard Motors Corp Serial #4023326 2-cylinder opposed twin”:

Found some history. The Outboard Motors Corporation was founded in 1929 when Evinrude, ELTO and Lockwood-Ash combined to provide competition to Johnson outboards. In 1936 they also bought Johnson and changed the name to the Outboard Marine and Manufacturing Company, OMMC, then by 1960 they had dropped the second M and it just became OMC. So, getting back to it, your motor probably is an Evinrude or ELTO - Evinrude Light Twin produced between 1929 and 1936.
